Dan, I see the filled holes now. I read that in the auction description but couldn't see them on my laptop. I would say that it is indeed a factory fill job considering the overlay is over the filled holes. I've seen one other Dobro made by Semie with this overlay foil treatment. It makes for a stunning headstock! Semie was known for altering necks and headstocks to suit his purpose at that time. I can show you headstocks where he added wood to the end of it to make it longer. Years later a hairline crack is evident in the clearcoat.

I do not have a clue about the DC prefix. It could merely have indicated that these groups of guitars were made at a different location or time period. For example after 1972 when Mosrite started up again. We see the same serial number changes in the other Celebrity models.

Dennis, thanks for the YouTube link. Now I can say I've seen a 12 string Dobro! I should not have spoken so soon, eh. I really like the song in that video!

Hey Gal,

I had NO CLUE either!! I thought I had seen one sometime back, but not sure. I gotta go dig up the catalogs and see if there is a pic of a 12 str Dobro/Mobro.
However I'm not sure if there ever was a D-100 Californian 12 string.....but as always, you never know with Uncle Semie doing one offs  .....
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

And another ODDBALL  !! I had to blow the VID up, but...there ain't no scratchplate for the
VOL & TONE knobs or switch. There's no pickguard screws, no nothing. Don't let the reflected arched
part of the body fool you....it ain't there, just like an original Celebrity...... :?

Wow! That's pretty cool. I'll bet Glen ordered it that way or Semie may have just made one like that and then given it to Glen. It looks like he also has a nice Mosrite strap. Is it my monitor or is Glens hair the same color as his suit?

Here is an example of a headstock that had a piece added to the end. I've seen a few like this.

Rather than add that mess to the end of the neck, why not just recut the original neck ?

Probably a matter of 'Semie-economics', Dan.
BTW and talking of Mosrite 'economics' ( i.e. "use what we have"), I think the D0002 dobro's neck could originally have been meant for a 12 string Joe Maphis model :?

Dan, when Semie made these "alterations" I'm sure they were not a mess at all and in fact you probably could not see them. I've seen these in person and there is no crack to be seen in the wood, it is only in the Nitro finish which as we know cracks very easy over time. And yes, Semie used whatever he could to build guitars and times were almost always lean for him.
