Thanks to all of you. I do appreciate it.

Hey oipunkguy, I know that they sped up as their carreers progressed...I witnessed it. I saw them either 12 or 13 times, starting in 7th grade in '83.

I remember the first time I saw them w/ CJ & thinking "somethings different, and its more than just the new bass player"

They were a little faster & Johnny was moving around alot more. The last time I saw them w/ Dee Dee aste Mania tour & they just stood there.

I effin HATE CANCER!

For those of you sitting on the fence, you screwed up. The price on the website is $74.00 more than the pre-order amount.

You will want a real amplifier, with tubes. IMO, you'll never sound close to the Ramones with a solid state amp. Personally, I just don't like solid state amps. And if my original slab Ventures II is any indication, it just doesn't do it justice to play through anything but a 50 or 100 watt Marshall, into 4-12" greenbacks. Bob may have improved the pickups to sound better through more amps, but Marshall is the way to go here.

By todays standards, the old Marshalls are not real high gain(distortion) amps. Johnnys had no additional gain stages like the new amps have. Modern bands want more distortion so, newer amps have additional gain channels. I personally prefer the simpler circuits of the older Marshalls, but they all can sound good. Newer ones will just require you to stick to the "normal" channels. the high gain ones can sound cool, just not like The Ramones. The newest Marshalls he played through were JCM 800's, very high gain for the time.

You could also get an 18 Marshall style combo clone(in kit form) with the treble, middle, bass tone stack. That can get you close without blowing out your windows. Or get a Fender Bassman head with the '59 mods done and plug it into a 4x12 cab. The early Marshalls are almost exact copies of the '59 Bassman. If you want any advice on a tube amp or want one built, pm me. But get yourself a tube amp! You'll be glad you did, have fun

hey Rocco,

I agree with ya for the most part, except for the last 6 years or so, Johnny played through 3 jcm 900 2100 SL-X heads, and he always had at least one plexi head with the guitar mix, but I think the jcm 800's was retired by 89-90. I know he continued using the 800 cabs though, cuz one of the cabinets at the last show was an 800.
I think it's also worth mentioning a marshall on 10 is pretty distorted compared to the same amp set at bed room levels, even on the old ones. not as much as a modern marshall or mesa, etc, but they are much more distorted then the typical fender amp, tubes or no tubes.

I agree with you about the 30 watt greenbacks (blackbacks). in my opinion they have the sweetest tone out of any speaker I've ever heard. I always thought the lead 80 speakers were too harsh sounding, and the 75's are really good too, but that AMAZING TONE from a black back, is like god.
Cheers,
Aaron

I love Dee Dee, but I always thought CJ was the better bassist. Dee Dee wrote AMAZING freakin tunes, but I think he was pretty much burnt out after rock n roll high school. it really bothered me how boring dee dee looked when he played in the later 80's compared to how the band was during that period when "It's Alive" was recorded.
Cheers,

Never even seen a picture with a 900 2100 sl-x, may have been rented for that show. Show me a photo please, I'd like to see that.

Sorry, I don't get your point here, elaborate.

Agreed. My black backs are rated at 25 watts, sound killer with anything, tube of course, through them.

I'm picking up a 1960ax(?) reissue cab from the 90's, with the British made Greenback reissues, mint condition, next tuesday. Can't wait.

Blackbacks are the best speakers in my opinion too. I have them in 2 70s Marshall cabs intented to go with the JMP MK II Super Lead 100W heads. 120W each cab. I wish I had matching heads, though.

Also that jerk/joykill/whatever on youtube was me. Thanks for nicknaming me appropriately. I have to say though, it looks great, but I'm not jealous having at least as good a guitar myself. And proper marshall gear to go with it.
