Pending Mosrite NGD

Postby SASouth » Tue Jan 27, 2015 4:10 pm

Hey all,

I just bought this today! It'll be shipped tomorrow. I think it's a Kurakomo, but I'm not sure. What do you think? Here's some pictures.

I've never quite understood these japanese Mosrites, so I'll ask here....what's a "Fillimore" or "Kurokomo"? Are they both counterfeits but sought after anyway? Kind of like the lawsuit Ibanezes? Or are they legit licensed Japanese Mosrites?

I don't know what the story is other than both build some pretty good reissues of Mosrite guitars. Some believe that Fillmore guitars are better while some believe that Kurakumo guitars are better. There have been lawsuits back and forth in Japan over the name. I've read that neither have rights to use it.

I would love to get the real story of what is going on with the Mosrite brand. I hear that Dana Moseley is somehow involved with trying to revive the brand here in the US and that Ed Roman Guitars somehow involved. I think that Dana Moseley is making pickups called Dana-Mo for Fillmore guitars.

Maybe someone with more knowledge can help a couple of Mosrite newbies out.

There is a ton of history on these guitars all over this site. Try the search feature.

I have searched. That's where the, "I have read" part in my other post comes from. I know how to use Google too.

Much of the information I've able to find is muddied with speculation and assumptions and is outright contradictory with other sites. It's hard to tell the wheat from the chaff. Hence the question asking for clarification. It may be old news to you, but confusion remains for those of us just coming to appreciate the world of Mosrite guitars.

But, thank you so much for your ever so helpful post.

There are currently three companies operating in Japan under the Mosrite name and none are legit, although they all claim ties to the original company. Fillmore holds the current US trademark, but it is not enforced within Japan. Ed Roman was a US distributor for Fillmore.

Cheers.
