Help please! - Beautiful Mosrite Ventures

Hi guys,

I wondered if anyone would be able to help me value my Mosrite Ventures please? The problem is I can't seem to locate the serial number anywhere. I've suddenly become stricken with paranoia that I overpaid for a copy.

I originally paid £1000 five years ago. That's $1550 to you guys in the US.

As you can see in these photos it's in great condition and I had a humbucker put in. Is there anywhere the serial number could be? I'm reluctant to take it apart.

It's a Japanese Kurokumo "Excellent" model, probably from around 2000. I had one that didn't have a serial number either. They're really nice guitars, and the feel and sound are very close to vintage Mosrites.

It's probably worth somewhere in the $1250-$1500 range.

It was originally priced at £1200 ($1850) but I got them down to £1000 ($1550). Do you not think that the humbucker adds a little more value to it?

Sounds like a good price for Europe. I was estimating value based on prices in the US. The non stock type pickup would reduce the value, not increase it. If it had been replaced by a hand wound Mosrite style pickup, it would be considered an upgrade.

You paid in the range of what it's worth.

Is it an original Mosrite from '1964? . . no. Is it a copy that was made in the late '90's/ early 2000's? . . yes. Kurokumo made some really nice guitars, that look and feel pretty much exactly like an original Mosrite. In fact, in some respects, the fit and finish is way nicer.

You got the more desirable early model with the "Ventures" logo on the head. Sometime in the mid 2000's they were forced to stop using the "Ventures" logo, so the earlier guitars with the logos are worth more than those without it.

They usually sell for anywhere between $1500-$2000 bucks (usd).

So you paid a fair price.

I would say $1500 and up if you have the original bridge pick up installed and not a humbucker. IIRC Mosrite guitar pickups are wired parallel which gives the guitar its particular sound.

made by Gibson from the early 90's which was called a P-100 pickup. This was
a humbucker pickup that had the first coiled magnet 'stacked' on top of the other

I think you're right, but either way, it should be changed back to a Mosrite pickup. -Marty

Looks similar to the PU my 1965 Gibson Trini Lopez ES-335 has in it. So +1 for your assumption, Dennis.
Should really be changed to an original PU again.
