what would be even better ofcourse is if he starts offering mk2s with all the original specs (pickups and bridge etc) and for an affordable price seeing as it was a student guitar

The kit is more expensive
I had asked him about one and he quoted me a price around $1500 for the kit. Then I found the thing about the JR model being so cheap somewhere else on his site, think it might be a better deal then the kit unless you wanna make it yourself

Now that Hallmark has the official JR guitars, these kits are obsolete.
