I put this thread in this category as I have never heard that Semie made a Celebrity double neck. I've often wondered why that is. It seems to me it would have been a straight forward project for him. I think it would be a great guitar. It would be lighter than the solid body versions and I think it would look pretty cool.

As I've daydreamed about such a guitar I decided to ask my friend who is so good with Photoshop if he could render such a guitar. I would do a few things differently such as the layout of the pickups (I would do typical Celebrity style) and I may have selected the Moseley half trem for the six neck or no trem at all. I'd also use the Celebrity pickguard configuration. There would, of course, have to be the correct control layout as well. I would likely use the humbuckers from the seventies on the 12 neck, and the single coils on the 6 neck. Or a coil tap arrangement might be an option. I'd have separate tone and volume controls for both necks with a master volume on the treble side horn. On the bass side horn I'd have a neck selector switch. But I think you can get an idea of what such a guitar would look like.

I'm going to try my hand at making an archtop guitar so maybe this will be my first project. We shall see!

It certainly looks interesting but those necks sticking out there on a hollow body would get mighty heavy pulling on your shoulders.

My eyes popped when I saw the pictures ...and then I started reading about your dream Sarah, wonderful. I was thinking, for a doubleneck Celeb. you'd need to have a lot of bracing inside the body to keep two necks firmly in position for as long as an average guitar life lasts (whatever that may be) But I'm sure you'll come up with something yet!

Cool concept Sarah, but I got to agree with Danny. You are going to have one heck of a
muscle build up with your left arm just in supporting the 2 necks .

One solution might be a neck through design terminating into a tailblock. That way there could be attachment points at the neck block as well as the tailblock. The extended neck and tailblock would add additional weight to the bout and may help balance the weight of the double neck. I've strapped up a few double necks and they always seem neck heavy, some worse than others. Yesterday I played the new BC Rich double neck and it is very neck heavy. It seems to me that they are not putting the strap pins in the right location. I think if the top strap pin was placed below center and the rear strap pin was placed above center that it might help some.

The other thing I would do is some parellel bracing or trestle bracing of the top. The first Celebrities had very thick side rims at 5/8" that were solid wood and not plywood. Later he went to 1/4" plywood sides. For a double neck I think I'd go with the solid 5/8" sides.

I've played the Gretsch Duo Jet double neck and it weighs about 14 pounds. I played it for 1 1/2 hours strapped and standing and it was not bad at all. It has the best balance I've encountered so far. If I could keep this one to that weight I think it would be okay. I wonder how much a Maphis double neck weighs?

The Ellison Maphis custom is well balanced, but it's got a solid body and an octave neck, so the weight distribution is different. You might consider a semi-solid design with a single solid block down the middle under both necks.

Overall I think it's a cool idea and if it's your dream then you should go for it. If you haven't already, look over Terry's build photos on the TNM guitar website. I think that would give you an idea of what's involved.

I've been all through Terry's site before and today. I see lots of beautiful photographs but I don't see any build photos. Obviously, I'm overlooking something.........

11lbs. if I remember right. I think that's what mine weighs in at.
