I'd suggest dinner and a romantic comedy.

I am in the same boat as you, i have talked to TYM and he says there is no way of knowing because they never were sequential numbering or mostly never numbered them.
my MIJ excellent SN overlaps a REAL 66/67 ventures HAHA
the only thing i noticed is that in the last few years they have started printing kurakamo on the back of the heel of the neck. The older excelent pickups sounded average (mine) compared to the more modern super excellent that have better pickups more similar to the more expensive '64 & '63 editions.
thats all i know :-)

You're right about the older pickups sounding average. I just scored an early Ex 65 with a Moseley tailpiece and it has by far the weakest sound of any other '65 I've heard yet.
It looks beautiful though.
Bill.

Let me know how the date went and If I can get a date with her. I've always had a fondness for Japanese girls especially the ones that were Venturesome.

Back to Kurokumo, some valuable info might be:

when were the different models (Excellent, Super Excellent, Roayl 63, etc) made?

what time frame did the guitars have the Ventures logo on the headstock?

The Excellent I had, with Ventures logo, no serial number and smooth pickup covers was sold to me as a 2000 model. The guitar also had 250K pots.

Mine has the Ventures logo, "M" knobs, Mosely vibrato & labeled pickups the serial # is: 4900. Nothing on the back of the headstock
