Thanks for your comments! My ol' frend Bill Gruggett told me when he
started working for Semie around 1961-62 they were building a batch
of about 20 of the Student models, I'm not sure how many got put together
and sold. I've only seen 2, the one Artie Niesen has, and a photo of a nother
one that on Tym's guitars website, Ive got a photo of that one.
Thanks,

All kidding aside, this design possesses an elegant simplicity melded to a complex shape that really makes one think...
Why didn't this design catch on?
Maybe Semie figured it just needed more bells and whistles, but I think 'It's ready now!'
How does one pickup in the middle sound? I'm guessing it sounds pretty good, as I usually use the in-between position on my Hallmark C60. I'm a big fan of the purest essence of a design with nothing extra, and I think this has all of the endearing elements of a Ventures-style, with nothing extra. If you took anything off, it wouldn't be complete, yet it doesn't need anything more.
I know what my bass player is going to say..."Is there a bass version?"
Uh-oh! Gotta go. My mouth's watering!
