Re: Fillmore Mosrites @ Front Porch
and for those that don't want to go there
MORE BREAKING BUZZ
Roman Guitars Closing
(Port Washington, NY - June 14, 2007) Las Vegas-based Ed Roman Guitars, known as “The World’s Largest Guitar Store,” began liquidating its assets on June 13. This comes six months after Roman sold the business to a company operating area car dealerships. According to Roman, nine employees were let go in May, followed by 13 more on June 13. Roman believes a car dealership will replace his store, due to the potential for more profits.
“I want everyone to know I’ll be back and everything will be made whole,” said Roman. “I am in the process of buying my name back. I didn’t sign any non-compete clause, so I hope to reopen a store, although it won’t be as large as my last one.”
According to Roman, his potential new store would also open in the Las Vegas area.

The Hallmarks don't "say" Mosrite, they "SCREAM" it. I have a little problem beleiving people are paying this kind of money for a copy just because of the name on the headstock. To each his own, but if Semie didn't have a hand in it's production, IT'S NOT A MOSRITE, regardless of what the headstock says.
Jusy my opinion.

If we use this as to why the new production models aren't real Mosrites then almost every other major brand are also just copy's of the originals also. They have all changed hands, been made in other locations and countries and some have come back to the original family. If and when there is a clear owner of the Mosrite name I would have no problem calling them original Mosrites.

Re: Fillmore Mosrites @ Front Porch
I think most of us (I'm being presumptive) here would agree with Jim. There is always going to be a distinction between the Mosrites of Bakersfield/Jonas Ridge/Boonville that Semie had a hand in producing, but Fender didn't cease to be Fenders when CBS bought it, nor did G&L become Fenders simply because Leo had a hand in it. If Semie had sold the Mosrite company and rights, they would still have been Mosrites, just not vintageMos. And as we have seen, he did build guitars under other brands (Gospel, Acoustic, Melobar) - are these more Mosrites than those being produced under the name today?
