Re: Breaking News: Mosrite Lawsuit.........
Fillmore has been doing the Japanese mass production line (via Tokai) and the handmade USA custom shop line (via Performance) since the '90s, but your argument isn't really analogous with the spirit of the lawsuit. What the lawsuits are about is two companies - one Japanese and one Taiwanese - vying for the right to use the Mosrite name.

Re: Breaking News: Mosrite Lawsuit.........
I could be wrong, but the only guitars coming out of Loretta's version of Mosrite are the USA handmade instruments made by Jesus Diaz Huipe (guessing he is located somewhere in the Carolinas), and the only retailer of these guitars is Basswood 65. These are the 'Semie Moseley Model' with the signature on the headstock where The Ventures logo was placed. Apparently, Mr. Huipe is making '65 and '63 reissues of the Mark 1. Check out the prices! You could buy vintage Mosrites for this kind of scratch!
If I were Loretta's business manager, I would have those guitars listed on a website in the US, selling them as individual pieces at about half the prices they are selling for in Japan, to generate some immediate cash flow.
I can't figure out where Swing Science fits in the picture other than selling Mosrite logoed Tee shirts and golf bags.
Again, just me trying to connect the dots. Maybe someone else around here knows more, but not willing to go public with it.

I think you're missing something, Strat-o-rama. Swing Science IS the business. Loretta is merely loaning her name for authenticity, and I'm sure she is being compensated well for it. In addition, Jesus has a tenuous place in Mosrite history to begin with, and from the Swing Science blog it would appear that they have put him up in Kyoto, Japan.

Re: Breaking News: Mosrite Lawsuit.........
Hey Guys,
Seven or eight years ago my ol' friend Andy Moseley stopped by my shop here
in Oklahoma and spent the afternoon talking about Mosrite, Checking out Semie's
old Machinery I have and checking out the new guitars I was building. Anyway
Andy told me that Loretta had re-married and that she had married a Hispanic
Gentleman that had been a guitar builder in Mexico and that him and her were
trying to build Mosrites some where around Jonas Ridge, NC.
I'm not a 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure this is "Jesus".

Re: Breaking News: Mosrite Lawsuit.........
Muy interesante...
A friend of mine told me he remembered him from BC Rich and would hesitate to call him a luthier. It's a dark secret of the guitar world, but for even the expensive custom shop BC Rich instruments, the bodies and necks are made in Mexico and then humped across the border to be finished in LA.

Well, the only common denominator between Dana and Loretta is Semie. They are not related. Loretta was Semie's last wife before he passed away. Now it's a battle of who is the rightful 'Mosrite' not 'Moseley' heir. Dana works for Fillmore and Loretta is in with some other Asian company. I do believe Fillmore is in the lead but it will be entertaining to watch the drama unfold.
