Re: Fillmore guitar show booth
The "group sounds" revolution (as they refer to it) had a huge influence on baby boomer pop culture in Japan. Not surprisingly, the two groups that really embody the Japanese concept of "group sounds" are The Beatles and The Ventures, and cover bands try to emulate every aspect of the target group, not just the music. In fact, what we might refer to as a cover band, the Japanese literally use the term "copy band." Unfortunately, the total or perfect copy band experience can often be taken to extremes that seem odd or borderline racist in the West. I hate to break it to you guys, but it's not uncommon to see Japanese R&B or soul groups take the concept as far as performing in blackface.

Re: Fillmore guitar show booth
You mean like this?

The lead guitarist plays and acts like Nokie (a quiet type but talented, he used the thumb pick too) I am sure Nokie feels good watching this.
darn, these kids are awesome. ...still funny though
Cheers,

Re: Fillmore guitar show booth
Japanese bands trying to recreate the vibe of white American bands is no different than, say, a quartet of pasty English lads from Liverpool trying to sound like black American bluesmen.
When I was a kid growing up in New York I would sing along to the Beatles. Me, with a heavy New York accent, singing "when ahm sixdee faw"
Now, THAT was funny.

Re: Fillmore guitar show booth
I rang Fillmore earlier this year when i was interested in their guitars and spoke to an elderly gentleman (well he sounded elderly), his english wasn't great but better than my Japanese and he said they would be happy to ship to Australia and said just send an email and they'll give me the shipping costs.
I ended up getting one via a friend in Tokyo at a better price.

Thanks for the encouragement. The Ventures are still strong in Japan. They go there every year for 30-40 concerts (all sold out). Next year will be the 50th anniversary and will be a big event for sure. The Ventures were in Taiwan only once; back in 1966? or 67? for a quick one night show at one of the high end hotels. (I was a poor student and couldn't afford to go of course) I tried to hook up a company in Taiwan for Nokie to play there but it was not succesful. I won't give up the hope and am still promoting The Ventures and Mosrites very hard in my Taiwanese forum.

OF COURSE!!! I wasn't going to mention it when I posted the link; I wanted to see who else would notice. No great surprise who did.

I think it's a pretty neat guitar, but I don't care for the decidedly un-Mosritey five way switch and pickups mounted to the pickguard. What I'd *REALLY* love to have is one like this below - a proper Ventures style pickguard with the extra pickup and the three mini-toggles on the pickguard by the neck pickup. I'd add a tone knob for aethstetics, but it's pretty much my ideal Mosrite. Of coruse, it's probably the only one of it's kind so I'd have to create my own.

Mel, that would be doable using the guitar you already have as long as you wouldn't mid having it painted in a solid, metal flake, or can apple color.
All it would require is making paper tracings of the existing routes to use as a guide then cut new wood to fill the old routes, then re route it to a standard Mosrite. Add a new paint job and you'd have an entirely different guitar. Let me know if you want to give it a go.
