Interesting. My understanding is the Royal 63 uses nitro lacquer and alder wood bodies, the Super Custom uses poly and an alder body. All others are poly and basswood.

Re: Kurokumo vs Fillmore
This is my personal opinion but I think the best value is the Hallmark 60. I have a Kurokumo Excellent and a Royal 63. Both are great guitars with the Royal 63 being a favorite. I also have several Fillmores-all three(2 six string and 1 bass) from Dana Moseley. The Fillmore guitars are wonderful guitars but have tuning issues when the vibrato is used. I have played the Ranger and did not like it as well as the Dana Mosrite Originals. Last year I purchased a Hallmark 60 Surf Pear and everything about the Hallmark is great. I found the sound of the Kurokumo and Fillmore to be closer to the sound of a Semie made Mosrite than the Hallmark, however, I just really like the sound of the Hallmark. The Hallmark also has a larger neck profile making it easy to play for people with large hands. The price of the Hallmark just can not be beat. I hope this helps and good luck!!!!

You are probably right Strat-o-rama. I may have gotten it wrong.
I'm just debating on a Candy Apple Red Fillmore AS, or a Ink Blue Fillmore AS with "Ventures" logo (rare) ...both have Nitro (which is super important to me)
I'm strictly a jazz guy, period.. and I have my other guitars which I used exclusively for that. But I do play punk and some rock time and time again just to cut loose with some locals and its nice just to play some simple rhythm changes and not have to think too much about single string improve concepts.. the Mosrite is a fun guitar for that.
I have a Super Excellent and its pretty cool, but its so hard to find the other cool colors from Kurokumo.
So..what you do you think..Candy Apple or Ink Blue? Problem is I love both those colors and, no, I can buy both...rent's coming up!

52, both colors!
Mosdan. The difference in the sound between the Hallmark and the Kurokumo/Fillmore: do you think it is in the pick up, or more the bridge baseplate? The Hallmark bridge is not touching the tremolo, and does not have a metal plate beneath it like the true Mosrite design. You think this could explain the tonal difference?

Re: Kurokumo vs Fillmore
What do you think are the better for the dollar from Fillmore: The Mosrite of Classics series, Mosrite of California American Standard, or the Mosrite of California Reissue series?
I wish I knew more about Mosrite clones like I do with Fender clones?

Re: Kurokumo vs Fillmore
Difficult choice. Can't judge the quality from the pics but my choice would be the one with "The Ventures" logo on the peghead rather than the "Mark I" logo but then the finish would have to be CAR
(or Sunburst)

I'm with Veenture, +1 on The Ventures model.
Oy vey - it's MESHUGGA BEACH PARTY - The world's premier Jewish Surf Music Band!

What? Couldn't tell the logo is a link? So click here, what's the hold up? http://www.meshuggabeachparty.com

Re: Kurokumo vs Fillmore
yea..What upsets me is that if they make these high end reissues..what's the point of not using Nitro? I might as well just buy a Candy Apple Ranger for way less.
They want 3000 for this CAR Nitro with Ventures Logo in Japan...crazy!...but beautiful finish!

Re: Kurokumo vs Fillmore
What is really puzzling is that for that kind if money, one could have an original 60s Mosrite - probably in pretty good shape, too.
