Mel, that would be doable using the guitar you already have as long as you wouldn't mid having it painted in a solid, metal flake, or can apple color.

All it would require is making paper tracings of the existing routes to use as a guide then cut new wood to fill the old routes, then re route it to a standard Mosrite. Add a new paint job and you'd have an entirely different guitar. Let me know if you want to give it a go. ;)

Actually, the thought had crossed my mind to make a new body, or maybe have a new body made by someone who knew what they were doing... :D

Japanese bands trying to recreate the vibe of white American bands is no different than, say, a quartet of pasty English lads from Liverpool trying to sound like black American bluesmen.

When I was a kid growing up in New York I would sing along to the Beatles. Me, with a heavy New York accent, singing "when ahm sixdee faw"
Now, THAT was funny.

I agree, I think that's funny too. a white guy dressed like a black guy, and black guy dressed like a hispanic guy, it's all funny. But nothing beats a japanese guy singing "california dreamin"

Personally, I appreciate the unexpected combination of performer and repetoire, like, say, rabbis playing surf music?

There's no language barrier in instromental music. It's quite universal. ;)
If it hasn't been done before, there's a reason why.

My answer would be that some of them look funny, not because of thier ethnicity, but that maybe they just look funny. 'Cause if you've seen early pictures of Yuzo Kayama or some of the early eleki groups, they really look cool - I mean downright cool!
Me, I probably look funny - not as cute as I used to be ;) .
