Thanks Veenture, I honestly didn't know that. I seem to recall that the late 90's, early 2000's models I used to see in Japan didn't have one, but as there were at least 3 'Mosrite' manufacturers there at the time perhaps I was confusing them.
Incedentally, what is the number on your fretboard? Is it a high number?

and thanks to everyone for the additional info. Seems to be kind of a mystery Mosrite. All I know is that it is an absolute blast to play and I really haven't put it down since I bought it. My next guitar is definitely going to be a Ventures Mosrite, hopefully I can find a nice deal on something vintage.

For some bonus confusion, in addition to "of California", some Kurokumos now say "Mosrite Crafted by Kurokumo"

Hey, that's new to me. At least that puts an end to sleuthing around as to its origin.

My first thought is that it's a Fillmore Mosrite because of the serial number and tortoise shell scratch plate, but the MIJ Fillmores have 'of Classics' on the headstock, so with the 'of California' there, it might be one sold or assembled in the US?

My Ventures II has no serial number on the neck and appears to be a Kurokomo Blitzkrieg/WD. I really don't care if mine is fake is some regard because it rocks! The blue has just a trace a sparkle in it, makes it shimmer without looking gaudy. Not sure if that's common amongst factories currently producing them, but it sure is pretty!

I know purists will probably hate it, but this is the headstock of my guitar now:

Doesn't bother me. I just got a "Play Guitar with the Ventures #3" also, came with a CAR Ventures model I bought!
