I've seen millions of solidbody guits with nitro check. But never noticed poly guitars checking but a few, and its usually on a seam or it got knocked and sort of cracked the finish like a shell split but doesn't effect the wood or when the wood splits you'll see major tear splintering. Any of the poly solids owners notice any? What would cause one to check other then extreme temps changes?
I bought a used Hallmark Custom and noticed one. Such check on the lower horn coming out/off where the neck was set. Its only about an inch long but checked in a half circle from the joint to the horn. It does not appear to be the wood at all. I just wondering if others have seen on teles or strats or whatever. The finish is thick, so it was either extreme temp flux (hot here), or it got knocked somewhere hard to crack a shell at the weak spot or is it a bigger issue coming soon?
The pickups are awesome on these and I love the necks. Super fast. I just want to be sure I'm not in for issues. I also can't wait for a Deke model. Thanks

Re: poly guitars checking help please
I've had guitars with Poly finishes develop checking. Only it's usually long cracks that originate at screw holes and chips though the finish. The guitars in question were usually 10+ years old.

Re: poly guitars checking help please
So I'm wondering maybe a jarring in shipment caused some flex. I dropped a strat once and got a split/crack in the finish. Maybe it got knocked. The strings were way out of tune/loose and maybe the term arm in the case did a quick dive bomb. It appears fairly superficial from what I can tell. Weird in the inside lower horn how it'd be there though. Stupid things, but I still wonder.

It is usually an environmental issue, what temp it has been stored in, fluctuations in temp etc. But yes as you may suppose, dropping the guitar never helps either. All of these things can contribute.
