Gee, I don't have a problem reading everything here. You should see the Grestch-Talk forum. I have nearly 6,000 posts there, and on the Guild forum well, not so many, oh the Gretsch Discussion Pages. Nope, this one is no bother at all!

I have not given up on the Celebrity double neck yet and in fact I think about it all the time. I recently snagged a Celebrity 12 string neck from eBay so I now officially have the first piece! So, if anyone runs across a Celebrity 6 string neck, please let me know.

I've been looking at archtop pieces, ie tops, back and sides that I can use to create the bout. However, the widest I've found is 17 inches. I guess I'll need to measure some other brand double necks to get a feel for how wide it should be. My guess is 19 - 21 inches.

I brought out my ESD1275 last nite to the gig and all I can say is what was I thinking. I've owned it since the mid 70's it has a Bigbsy on the 6 string plays great. I can't believe that it was my main guitar for a few years. I'ld play 4 hour gig with just it? Now I see why Deke switched to his Hallmark model. Sarah I think a your double neck design would be very neck heavy.

I agree it will be neck heavy. I think they all are, just some worse than others. I'd like to have one just to have for one set. There are a few songs I do where I use a 12 string, then I have to put the guitar down, pick up a 6 string to keep going. I'd like the convenience of having both necks so I can switch back and forth.

I do have a solution for the heavy neck problem and I'll try to describe it. I've come up with a strap design that I will make to relieve the problem. I will stitch another piece of leather (or some other material) a certain distance above the bottom strap pin location, onto the strap. This will be a short "leash" that I can either feed through a belt loop or my belt when I'm wearing jeans or a skirt. It will give a bit of a tug when I let go of the neck but it will effectively hold the guitar in place. In fact I should be able to release the guitar entirely and have it just suspended at the proper playing angle.

Also, I think it would be cool just to have one. I don't know of any other female player that uses a double neck, well, I've never seen one anyway.

Lastly, since Mosrite never made a double neck Celebrity I'm just feeling motivated to make one.

My guitar tech told me not to get a Gibson EDS 1275 are a bear to set up and he charges $300 just to set them up. The Epiphone version I played was okay but it didn't push my buttons.

The Ibanez copies from the mid 70's seem to be excellent quality and is the double neck that my tech recommends.

The BC Rich model that I played I really, really like. It has so many awesome tones available via the coil tap, etc. This thing has a lot of buttons so there would be a steep learning curve. I've played it for a couple of hours and was just amazed how the 6 neck sounded with single coils. Very rockabilly, actually. It is a neck through design and even with that it is VERY neck heavy and dives terribly.

Gretsch makes a 6120 hollowbody double neck however, the only one I've found is over $3,000 and it's in Chicago. The Gretsch Duo Jet double neck I played in Santa Monica was the best balanced one I've played and I like it a lot. They are asking $2,500 for it and if I had the money I'd buy that one.

The Ovation double neck seems like a good choice a I don't think it would be too heavy and it would have an acoustic quality to it as well as having pickups. They are affordable, but I see too many with lifted bridges and that concerns me. I haven't talked to my tech to see if he could beef up that area, which might be a viable option. There is a sizable access panel in the back of the guitar that would allow a hand inside to work in that area. I'm still open to this one.

Jay Turser makes a very affordable double neck and they sound pretty darned good actually. Geoff Stich (Dr. Gretsch), a member here, has one and will bring it next month to the Gretsch Roundup in northern California. I'll have the opportunity to play it and if I like it, that would be an economical choice, at least for the interim.

Sarah the way I kept my Doubleneck from diving is place the strap button behinded the 6 string neck. Really last night wasn't that bad I did the 1st hour with it and really should have given it more time to get used to it again. My #1 has been my Jackson Soloist for 25 years and someone in the crowd even said that sounded a lot better. It was hard to ajust to the necks placement to each other and the controls. I never seem to have any problems with single neck guitars I own (30+) maybe its just the visual aspect of looking over the 2 neck? P.S. I'ld still love to have one of Terry's TNM doublenecks maybe Halmark will someday make one.
