Unusual Si Fuzzrite

Postby devnulljp » Fri Oct 07, 2011 12:41 am

So, I have a thing for old Fuzzrites ...
Just came across this one -- I thought it was most likely an early Ge Fuzzrite from the short V/T knobs and switch through the board, but it turns out to be Si -- a pair of TZ82s and 0.05 uF flat ceramic caps.
1968 pot codes.
Never seen that before. Anyone else?
The more usual Si has the phenolic board wrapped in tape, and of course there's the later version with the Sprague module.

COOL!! And those pics are excellent. Does she function OK after all these years?

I have seen silicon versions with the switch thru the board before. I always assumed that they were transitional from the germanium to the later taped board versions, but with the way that the history of Mosrite works, I have no real idea as to when these actually came out.

Is this the one that was on eBay a few weeks ago?

Thanks guys.
I pulled the on/off slider switch apart for a good clean and re-tension of the metal contact clip, and the pots needed a bit of deoxit, but other than that it works fine.
Sounds great too.
This is my 6th vintage Fuzzrite -- I like em ;)

Thanks for the info Mr. Bill -- yes I picked this up on ebay a month or so ago. it's a bit ratty on the outside, but works fine.
I was kinda thinking it looked transitional as I have three Ge Fuzzrites with the switch through the board (but they differ among themselves in other ways too).

The others I've seen have all looked like this
Tall knobs with numbers 0-5 (rather than V/T-5 like this one), phenolic board wrapped in tape independent of the switch, 1968/9 CentraLab pots.
