Re: Mosrite double necks

Postby hypnofonic » Thu Mar 26, 2009 9:12 am

this is my old double neck i traded artie at front porch. got it from a small guitar shop here in norcal, story was the owner of the guitar worked at mosrite and built this himself. the 12 string octave neck is just wacky.. i never strung it up with 12 strings, i always kept it only with 6, in fact it doesnt look like artie ever did either.. :D anyway, i really wanted a ventures model so i traded him for my candy blue 65 ventures.

cool to see that guitar again, i havent seen it since ive traded it many years ago. i think i still have pics of it somewhere.. body is double bound front and back, i never did take it apart to check for date stamps or pot codes, but i am thinking that it was from around 67 or 68.

cheers!
andy

Here's a body style you don't see that often. This is a mando/six owned by a guy in Texas. I have seen one other of this style, an octave 6/6 that was owned by Brian Lonbeck. There may be others around but I haven't seen any.

1) Terry, do you by chance know what year she might be?

2) Andy, regarding your Doubleneck hangin in Artie's Store,
do you miss it??
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

The story I got on the mando/guitar doubleneck was that it was ordered by the original owner in the early '70s and completed in 1976 at the earliest. It also apparently took some doing for that fellow who had ordered it to track Semie down years later. One of the necks has the New Mosrite era logo, while the other does not.

Ah yes, I thought that guitar and the story sounded familiar. Adam, I think you actually
posted the story on this Gem a little while back, but I might be wrong, anyhow thanks ;)

Not I, but the guitar was listed on ebay a couple of times, probably a few months ago. Not sure if it ever sold.

I finally found the Brian Lonbeck guitar picture. The only other body I've seen like the one I posted above.
You might notice that Brian's has humbuckers

A young beaming Brian with an early morning (or late night by the looks of the window) Semie.
Brian, with the supervision of Semie made the pickguard and the sleeve guard.
Carved from walnut.

Some little known history. Brian stayed with Semie for several months and during that time helped
Semie in the shop with about 100 guitars. He said his main job was buffing the finished bodies and necks
and of course every moment in between. . . sanding.

This guitar was stolen from Brian many years ago. I got a note from a friend that remembered seeing it in
a music store in Pasadena 15 to 20 years ago. I would imagine that Brian would still like to have it back.

Sorry, I don't know what year this was. I could ask Brian next time I see him.

Thanks to Elaine Frizzell for the photo. Please give credit if you use it.
