Need some help with this one. What is it?

Here is one I found last week. Needs some love. No pickups, string guide, or truss cover.
No serial on fretboard, Paint looks almost too good to be a refin. 9v battery route in back of the guitar. name and address engraved into back of the neck plate.
I haven't cleaned it yet.
Pickguard is multi ply cant quite identify neck pocket stamp. May 12 then ????
what do you all think?

I have never seen one quite like it....
Is there any way to contact the name and address on the neck plate?
I'd love to see what the story is on this one!
Either it came from Semie's shop custom or someone modded it...or both!
Any way, the tuners are different and from the several holes where the pickups are mounted someone did some experimenting. Obviously the knobs and switch tip could have been changed as well unless it was a partsrite from the start. Looks like it could be an awesome project guitar.
IMHO you could complete it and have a super cool custom Mosrite there.

First off, I have no idea what that is.

Two things jump out at me....1) the frets look gigantic. 2) When did Mosrites have big "normal" fret markers?

As for the larger dots, the Mosrite Celebrities started having larger fret marker dots in 1973 so perhaps they did the same thing on the solid bodies. They were also using jumbo frets by then and these look consistent with what I've seen on Celebrities from that era.

Can you make out the letters that are etched at the bottom of the neck plate? It looks like "SR" and then some numbers. I'm guessing that is short for Serial Number. You could put some thin paper and with a pencil rubbing perhaps see what is etched there.

On the bottom of the neck you might be able to make out the year of the date with a magnifying glass. I think the number below the date may also be the serial number and if that matches the number etched on the plate, that would be a good thing.

I'm guessing if you can contact Eddie Walker and share these photos with him, he will likely be able to tell you much more.

Thanks for the reply's I wiped it off and cleaned it up a bit. Looks much better. I can see some orange peel in the curves of the finish.
If it is a refin its a very good one. Another mystery that revealed itself is it looks like it never had Klusons on it. There is impressions of a teardrop tuner with one screw was. The extra holes are from the 3 on a tree tuners. I pooped in a kluson and no screw hole lined up.

What I see is SR008. In the neck pocket, and the plate.
Does it appear to be a refinish, or original paint ?

The overspray in the neck cavity looks right for what's on top. I'm not sure if it is original but looks well done If it isn't. That's why I was posting it here. I think it might be a significant guitar in some way.

Hey guys,

This is definitely an early 70s mosrite Mark model. Probably a Mark one. The Japanese tuners were common on them, and the headstock logo, headstock shape and larger dots is all common of this period. If I had to guess , 71-72. Some of the earlier models after
Semie bought the name back, many of these guitars had sunburst on the headstocks.

The pickguard (4ply with the nitrocellulose lacquer top) also is common of early 70s Mosrites. My guess is the back route and the extra pot added was done afterwards, as well with the finish.
