S.P. letters on the serial number :what do they mean???

here's a closer picture of the neck serial number stamp, strings are away for cleaning the guitar.

on the guitar's top these are some strange traces, maybe made from very old finger sweat that have not been wiped ... the guitar seems to have spent a very long time unplayed in its case, maybe the sweat produced some oxydation in the nitro finish. similar traces can be seen on the back, mostly around the rear body ( not in the middle of it).

I really don't think so. It serves no purpose and doesn't look right on the pickguard.

There is a Mosrite Maphis on Reverb.com right now with some unique features. The seller mentions that the serial number also contains the S.P. that you had been asking about.

hello, thanks a lot Fuzzrite 69 , these two letters are a bit of a mistery.. on my guitar there's a point after each letter on the inner label ( S.P.) , that made me think that it doesn't mean SPecial. But maybe i have to consider now that it means special...

just looking at the pictures i have published formerly, what could make that guitar 'special' ? it looks quite similar as the other combo 12 i have seen on the net...can you identify something that could make it 'special?'

According to a fine man named Tony Brown who sells a Joe Maphis doubleneck on Reverb.com, ( many thanks to Fuzzrite69 for indiciating him to me), S.P. menas Special Production, to identify a custom made guitar built with specific needs ... unique custom made one-off...

in a few days i will unscrew the neck: maybe some clues a re stamped or written in the neckpocket...
