Mosrite Serenade Acoustics

Postby redner » Thu Oct 06, 2016 4:29 pm

I'm considering buying a 65 Serenade for my collection. Are these as scarce as they appear to be?

I think they are pretty scarce. One or two a year pop up on eBay.

I know the value of these "endangered species" is rather arbitrary, but do you have an idea of a reasonable price range?

It all depends on the guitar's condition. One or both of the production model acoustics (the other being the Balladeer) had problems; it/they would eventually crack and need significant repairs in order to be played at all. Correct me if it's not so, I thought I heard it had something to do with the finish? These guitars aren't in high demand despite their scarcity, incidentally one (Serial F0260) in nice shape (except for a repaired crack in its side) is for sale at $800 on eBay now:

You'd have to ask yourself if the price is worth it. If I collected Mosrites a lot more I might have jumped on it at this price myself.

-- For what it is worth I have a set neck one and think it is a great little acoustic, could project better but that is normal for smaller acoustic guitars. If I remember right I got it for right around 1300 bucks, with case. It's in pretty nice shape, with one blemish on the top, and it had recently had a neck reset. Played it Sat night at a friend's bday party...

I bought F0260 from e-bay. So happy that I did. frets 1-7 need some work, but rings clean and intoned perfectly. I am suprised by the relatively flat fretboard radius. Although some cracks in the finish, it is 100% solid. The tone is very punchy and rich. This model has the Mohogany neck. I see a little heresay about these guitars being sub-standard, but I am smitten with this one. I see a couple of Serenades on the usual suspect sale sights 1100+ with some major cosmetic issues. I would not have jumped for that price, but for $700, I think that I scored.

I noticed today a price drop on a Serenade on ebay. 999.98 with original case. Looks like a Maple neck model. Looking like a pretty sweet deal....
