Practically anything could be reproduced, what you can't reproduce is the built in history of the item. The old "If it could talk". That is what gives vintage items appeal to me.

I totally agree. I understand that this sort of thing probably nets them $100-200 for an hours worth of work. But, it seems to me to destroy the "magic" of a vintage guitar because it won't be original to the next owner who will likely not get all of its original parts and therefore will have to get some parts from some other parted out guitar.
