I use to have a '73 back in '81 or '82. It looked a lot like the one on the left side......

Oi,
Those are beautiful guitars. I think I read someplace that the push-button switches bypass the vol and tone controls, is this correct? I assume these don't have coil taps. How would you describe the effect on tone when you turn the switches on/off?

Hey Mel,
Thanks. The buttons are switch craft brand, and is really the same thing as a on/off mini-toggle, in a button design. I wish I could find them, I don't think switch craft makes them anymore. I like them so much more then a mini toggle.
The mosrite humbuckers have the 4 conductor wiring, plus ground, so these could be wired as coil taps, phasing, etc, and I have heard some were wired that way. but mine are bypasses, one button for each pickup.
The difference is when the button is engauged there's probably a 10-15% gain in output, and an increase in treble. I guess it's almost comparable to a coil tap, but with out the added hum. the change isn't very noticable played on a high gain amp, like a marshall, but on a clean fender amp, you can really play around with your tone quite a lot. I'm not much of a surf player, but I like to jam to some clean rhythm tones, and it can get very strat like at the right amp settings.
sometimes I will play with the tone controls cut at about 2.5 (remember mosrite knobs are numbered 1 through 5) I can get very thick tones, similar to a les paul, so it's fun to switch back and forth with it. I wish Semie made them longer, they're my favorite mosrites.

I think this is what I have. Someone told me to come here and you guys might be able to help me since I now nothing about my guitar. I haven't seen a black one and mine is black. Could anyone tell exactly what type/model I have? I attached a link to the pic. Thanks for the help.

yup, thats what it is. its a mark V II model, or V2. its kinda like a deluxe version of a ventures/mark one model. larger headstock, larger dot inlays, humbuckers, four knobs and the push buttons. the push buttons were usually green, but came in other colors too. its good to use those buttons a lot, sometimes they freeze up on ya and you got to hit them with a wee bit of 3 an one oil and work it out.
