I am wanting to know if anyone can tell me more about my Ventures Bass guitar. I was told it was most likely made around April in Bakersfield in 64. I have tried to research with the serial number but to no avail. I am not able to post pictures yet but the serial number is 5472

Your pic link is not working. You need to paste something like a [IMG] link from Photobucket into the post. I'd love to see pics of your bass!

Check this out. There a lot of basses near the bottom of the list.

Hi Mark1, thanks for proving the cool link. I will see about adding my Bass to the that list. I need more info from some enthusiast as to exactly what year my Ventures bass is. I will post a link to some pics.
Thanx

Hey Red, it's kind of hard to pin it down exactly. . . but my best guess would be that your bass is a '65'. In 1964 Mosrite still used the large "Ventures" logo ('64 also had a different neck plate. The plate was just a cover with four smaller screws). In 1966 they switched over to the duck foot tuners on the basses, although there are a few early '66 basses out there that still have the open style tuners (found on the 1965's and earlier). . . . and in 1967 they began using two pick-ups instead of one (although you can find some '66's out there with two pick ups). '67 also saw the introduction of a truss rod cover (I've also seen truss rod covers on late '66 basses as well).

If you take the neck off, nine times out of ten, the date should be stamped on both the heel of the neck, and the neck pocket. . . but, it's not always there.

I hope this helps.

Red ..... your bass is identical to mine except for color. Mine is sunburst. Same tuners, same control knobs, same back plate, pick guard, bottom string cover ..... everything. My bass is a '66.

I bought my bass (well, my parents did) in December of 65. Mine is s/n 5610 so yours is a little older than mine if the serial number sequence can be believed. Otherwise it looks the same as mine. I agree that if you take the neck off you will probably find a date stamp on both the neck and the body. The 'new' early 70's bass I bought recently had no information on the neck or body but my 65 does.
