This kind of reminds me of a kid who inherited his father's 64 strat (mint) and decided to "modify" it by putting a handle in the body (like those Ibanez Steve Vai guitars), multi colored humbuckers, and a Khaler trem. Ouch!

BAD IDEA! Don't ruin that instrument. Like vjf wrote there are plenty of cheap (and good sounding) baritone guitars out there.

In a sharp dissension of the other posters, If you find a quality luthier, he could build you a baritone neck that would require no modification to the body or original neck...In a word, new neck, no mods otherwise. Easily reversible, you don't damage a valuable guitar, and everyone wins.

I agree. Baritone conversion necks exist for various Fender models. It's a simple bolt on. For a Mosrite you would have to have a luthier scratch built one, but the concept is the same.

A little birdie hipped me to this discussion. We're building semi-hollow Mark I's and Combo's now.

We would gladly accept the challenge of building a baritone Combo if anyone would like to engage our services. Not trying to sound like a cheesy salesman, just letting ya'll know we can help.

It's also possible to use heavier gauge strings on the original neck and tune it lower. Anyone who is saying that you would be destroying your guitar must not know how guitars work. You'd have to recut the nut, or replace it and keep the original intact. Sounds like a cool project to me.

Thanks everyone for your input. i made a new nut using bone & strung it up with light baritone strings ( 13s). Works great tuned to c. Takes some getting used to but cool dark tones. Completly reversable with very little change in action. Did Semi ever build a baritone or tenor instrument?

not that i know of, the closest i can think of is a bass with a guitar scale.
