New guy. Recognize this cool '65?

Postby davek » Mon Jun 25, 2012 10:10 am

Hi,
My first post. I just scored a very cool '65 Ventures at auction. I know nothing about the history and since it's so special I though maybe someone may have remembered seeing it in action.
The paint job appears professional and very old. The crazing is nice and uniform.
(I have a repro whammy bar and spring coming this week and then with a set up I believe the guitar will be ready to bring in a nice psychedelic Summer...)

If there ever was a guitar SCREAMING for a refinish...this is it.

It may be earlier then a '65 due to the Vibramute and Spun knobs...very cool!

Oh no! No refin - this thing is a link to the past .... Looks like the original finish is there, still, just painted on.

Hey Petey! I sent your arm out today for your Vibramute, you will most likely have it tomorrow. I would keep the finish just this way if it were mine, and I agree, it is a link to the past and a real piece of 60's art.

If you decide you would like to refin it, look me up and I'll hook you up. It would hurt though.

Welcome to the forum and inform Loyd to join in too!

Thanks for the arm Bob.

I would never re-fin this guitar. There are 100's of nice blue/red/sunburst Mosrites out there. This is one of a kind and I love it. I bought it for the paint job.

I grew up in the mid-late '60's and about the only music I have ever really liked was psychedelic, not necessarily old psychedelia but all of it.

So this guitar is pretty special to me.

I just wish I knew some of it's history.

I think I'll plug her in here....

Hey, DaveK--

I'm glad that you don't plan to refinish that guitar. Whomever had that done went to the trouble to gave a pro do it. One day you'll find out the history of that guitar and you'll be glad you kept it original!

It reminds me of Hendrix's Monterey Strat!

Dave, congrats on a good score and for all the right reasons too! The more I look at it, the more it grows on me. I'll bet you like The Ventures' "Super Psychedelics" album too :D

And I need to have that VOX !

Very cool and agree about leaving the "custom" artwork intact.
Now, plug into the /Vox and play In a Gadda Da Vida
