After not going anywhere near a guitar shop for a while due to buying a new dwelling I went out on Friday and scored this little beauty.

I can't put it down- I love it. Actually it's my first experience with the flat frets I've heard so much about and it took me a while to get used to 'em but it's all good now. I'm wondering though if the tailpiece is a repro as from what I've seen in pictures of real ones there's usually a patent number or something above the Moseley logo but there's nothing like that on this one.
I'm trying to find out what year model this is but I can't quite make out the serial number on the neck. It looks like B610 to me but if anyone can shed some light on it I'd be happy to hear it.
I was amazed to find this guitar just sitting in the shop when I did. I've dreamed of things like that happening but I didn't really expect it to happen.

It says it is between 65-73 but email tim i am sure he would be happy to give you more of an accurate date.
Since it has the ventures logo it has to be pretty early in my opinion.

Congratulations on your find! How do you like its size? I find this design to be very comfortable, It's a joy to hold and play and it's also a light guitar. Watch out though, They can get dings extremely easily! I've put a few dings in mine (Which needs refinished anyway, See my restoration thread) Just by hitting it with a screwdriver while reinstalling the pickups. If you ever need to take parts off, Take it slow and steady.

Paul, As far as I've known this model has never been reissued under the Ventures II name and it probably never will be (Perhaps barring custom orders) Due to possible confusion with the other, More popular "Johnny" Style Ventures II. Actually, Mosrite made three designs under the Ventures II name:

#1, The "Johnny" Or "Slab Body" Model, Manufactured for a short time only in 1965.

#2, Looks the same as Mosman's model except the neck was slightly shorter at the heel and the neck pickup was farther away from the bridge. Some of these models got parts from the earlier model and perhaps some also got necks from the earlier model. Manufactured in 1965, I'm not sure for how long.

#3, Mosman's model. Later renamed the Mark V some time in 1966, If my Mosrite history is right. Identical to 1966 Mark Vs with the truss rod adjustment at the body. Manufactured in late 1965? And early 1966. My Ventures II neck has a manufacturing date of January, I think, While the body was manufactured in March.

Regarding its size, I thought it was little too short at first but now it feels just fine. It has a nice amount of wear,oodles of 'vintage vibe' and sounds superb. I still can't believe I found it on my first outing after some time. Oh and it was only $1500 Australian with a nice tweed-like case as well.

Congrats!!!!!! Great looking guitar. Yeah, the flat frets are a little different but after you get use to them they are gtreat for some fast leads. Bending the strings is a bit tricky with flat frets but just require a little different approach. Good luck with it and enjoy.

Early Moseley tremolos did not have the patent numbers. Those were added mid to late 1966.

I checked out the neck cavity today and the body has a stamp which says Feb 11 0004 and the year date is either 1966 or 1968. The neck says Jan 31 1966 0026.

I don't know what significance it may have but it's quite interesting.
