Welcome, Damon67! What a eye opener! :o Thanks for sharing.

I am shocked to see something like this here.

This reminds me the famous "Barbara Mandrel" model.

In the before photo of the pickguard what is the white covering on the Bobby name?

And Mr. Shade didn't want to buy his "prototype"
back from you that he made years earlier?

Yeah, Bob Shade REALLY wants it and gave me a great offer before we started on things, but I just couldn't.

It's been so long in pieces

I needed closure

And after playing it, I'm glad I didn't. It did come very close to being his. It does have his name on it after all. He has first dibs if I ever decide to sell.

Congrats on getting Bobby restored. Very unique! I've been quietly lurking watching this thread to see how it turns out. It's doubly (no pun intended) nice that it is a sweet player as well as historic.
Just curious: how much does it weigh?

Added as an edit: You should post more pics of restored Bobby when you get the chance! Ya know, something for us to drool over.

Strat-man, it's weight is quite light for a doubleneck, I was quite surprised. I don't have an exact weight for you though. It sure is a WHOLE LOT less than the first doubleneck I played way back when.

(another interesting story, it was a custom made flying V made for Ozzy who ordered it for Brad Gillis. After Brad left Ozzy's band, my buddy's dad picked it up for him in an auction at Leo's music in Oakland, CA)

As for more pics, I have a bunch that Bob Shade sent, and I'll get those up after I resize. I'm a bit of a shutterbug myself, so I'll have some of mine up soon too. By this weekend I'm sure. It's hard to lay it down long enough to take pictures!

P.S. - If you run across any of my posts on other forums bashing Strats, I apologize in advance. No hard feelings? ;)

Looking forward to the pix. I can only imagine the excitement of finally getting to play it. ;)
