very nice work sarah,
it's nice to have a concise history and timeline presented in ego-less prose. many folks not familiar with celebritys(or is it celebrities?) will inevitably find your posts on the net. you have done a great job adding to mosrite lore.

i'm also curious about the bridge on the "new" 64' proto. it's hard to tell from the photo. is there the usual roller on the adjustable bridge pieces? or something else?

also, they appear to be brass. is that from chrome rubbing off over the years or are they actually plain brass?

just curious.

Thank you connie_mack,

yes the bridge is brass and it has worn through the plating. The same condition exists on my prototype as well as the arm on the Vibramute on my prototype. It may not be in the photo but the the end of the arm has worn through the plating quite a bit. Even though my proto has the tremolo, it has the adjustable solid bridge instead of the Roller-Matic adjustable roller bridge.

Very interesting Sarah. The term mortise and tendon actually comes from a design technique that comes on antique furniture, typically on a door on a cupboard for example. the earliest examples that I know of is on American furniture dating around 1800. The translation to a guitar neck is slightly different, but the concept is more or less the same thing. Just thought you might enjoy that little tidbit :D

That's very interesting Aaron. I didn't know that. I believe as far as guitar making they were used for acoustic guitar neck before archtop guitars. For some reason in the back of mind I want to say they came from violin construction before that.

That looks like a good start to a doctoral thesis paper. Very nice. Thanks.

Amazing detective work there girl! Now we need you to research the Ventures/Mark Series, the Combos and the Maphis lines.

When does the book come out?

Thank you Jim and Mr. Bill. I'll post part two of this on Saturday which will take the tale to 1977 when the Celebrity trail ends. I would love to see an historical Mosrite book written but I do not believe I have the knowledge whatsoever to do such a thing. I could contribute the Celebrity chapter however. ;)

When I feel like I have my website where I want it to be and the flow of information slows way down on the Celebrity I just might take on the Combo next.

to those interested....

that would be mortise and TENON. (not tendon)

not just furniture. also timberframe construction et al.

is a very old technique. thousands of years? i believe i remember seeing it used in egyptian furniture out of the pyramids.....

it just makes sense, that's why it exists everywhere....

also, sarah, yes. it was also used in fiddle making(ahem....violins)

That's right! Now I remember this technique from woodworking classes in High School (actually: "Manual Training", as it was called back then) ;)
