Does anyone know what serial number was the first Ventures II with german carve before it eventually became the Mark V? Or.. the last slab body serial #? I do know that Semie used the different pickguard ( it extended the length of the neck pickup) just curious when the slab turned into the carve.

Very hard to say, as he was making Mark V's at the same time, which also have a B prefix in the serial number. Maybe someone can chime in with their carved VII number, and eventually we'll get the lowest number and leave it at that.

I've always heard there were only 200 of the slab bodied, at least that is the rumor.
Otherwise my 2 cents on your serial number quest: My german carve V II is around B370's, but the lowest I've seen is B290 for the german carve.

Hey Johnnyboy,
Have you looked here? Tim has spent a bunch of time putting together this info. If you don't find it here
http://www.tymguitars.com.au/mosriteinfo_serials.html maybe you could email him the question.
Good luck,

Yeah; I've looked there and at the Mosrite owners list.... mine is a B174...someone took all of the hardware and sanded the sides so it's an anomaly.....the date on the neck and body coincide (August 1965) so it could have been a slab, a transitional or mark V style...the neck sits in the body shallower than my Mark V...it has the kidney shaped neck plate...I may have to drive up and see Artie..he may know. It most likely was like the one on his wall with the extended pickguard. so I am refurbishing it to look like that right now.

Do you have any photos of your guitar? Neck says VenturesII?

The decals were also sanded off...the headstock itself is thin in width like the slab body style.... I think it may have been an early transitional when its's finished I will post new pics.

Didn't all the slab bodies have rectangular neck plates?

My German Carved Ventures II is B186 if that helps. I see there is a B174 on here.
