The reason is that you have all of your wiring (pots, switch, jack) in one, easily accessible place. It may not look pretty, but anyone who's ever had to go fishing through a hollowbody understands its purpose.

That makes sense. I don't own a hollow body guitar and haven't worked on one so I wouldn't have known.
