MOSRITE BASS - SOME SUPERFICIAL OBSERVATIONS

Like so many players, I have the 6-string affliction too -ever since my teens- but I do love the bass also…absolutely!
Since the recent re-kindling of the Mosrite 'lower end' on the forum, I found myself having a closer look at Semie’s bass wonders. Here are some of my first (amateur) findings posted in graphic form. All pics are loaned from the internet, some of which are from Bob K’s wonderful collection:

Nice observation Mel, BTW, did anyone catch PIC #6??
I thought it was kind of odd that they are saying this is a '66(?) being that
there are Cloverleaf Tuners on her, and no Truss Rod cover on the H'Stock.
I'm wandering if the owner (at the time) maybe tried to 'update' his Bass by
installing the '66 skirt nobs back then.......

...that would take me "forever" to do Vincent, besides, the 6 stringed wonder is most definitely much more of a challenge and even more so with my limited knowledge. Would be nice to do so though...who knows

Mel, I'm sure there must be much more interesting 'finds' to discover all the time like the ones you and Dennis have already pointed out (albeit factory induced or private endeavours). I think I myself have just discovered anothert minor change in design, looking at the pics again; it seems the tailstop of the '63 Sidejack is held down by 2 screws; later designs for 3. And so we may go on.
Yes this is the very thing about Mosrite, setting her apart from the other great names out there.
Mosrites weren't rolling off the assembly line in gigantous numbers! Each and every instrument is unique with it's own individuality...love 'em!

I hadn't noticed the 2 screw mount of the string retainer on that sidejack! Did you see how the end of the neck isn't flush with the pickup as it is on the later models?

Judging from the above bass report, a short superficial observation on any 6 string model will give us many enlightening discoveries...

Hey Vincent, you flatter me! thanks. But you know, it's the pictures themselves that 'speak' to us and provoke our thoughts, Veenture is just laying out the evidence. I'm learning too all the time because as I speak, like did anyone yet notice the new position of one of the screws holding down the pickguard in it's 'waist' part? -in picture 6 and onward (not counting reissues)

Wow, I hadn't noticed the screw placement before. I wonder why it was changed.

Here's something else I wonder. How does the two pickup Mosrite bass Bob Bogle is holding the picture below fit into the timeline?


It appears that this photo was taken during their January 1965 Japanese tour:


Yet for the summer tour, Bob is playing a single pickup model again:


So, a two pickup model, then back to a single pickup model? I wonder why? Has Bob ever talked about this?
