Re: 1965 Mark II Ventures Model
Vincent, here is an article that explains the two guitars and shows a couple of photographs for comparison. Mark II / Mark V

Re: 1965 Mark II Ventures Model
Interesting find Danny. I'm a little puzzled at some of this story or printing in this Article.
Why would Mosrite make:
ORIGINALLY - "The Ventures II Model" Series started out as a MARK II. After Semie thought that the original design looked cheap, they came out with the more 'fancier version' called the MARK V. However, it was still called "the Ventures II Model." I really would like to see a MARK V Body Style (German Carve Body) with a MARK II signature under "the Ventures II Model" on the Headstock to shut me up . I keep seeing people confusing this time and time again......Why would Mosrite make a MARK II and a MARK V at the same time that were totally identical?? And the other thing that made me laugh in this article................ Referring to the COMBO.....
Why would Mosrite make:
HUH??? Are we sure about this?? I have heard this a few times before, and it STILL doesn't make any sense how this could be......I always figured some folks got confused with the "Series" and the Models...another words........The German carve Mark II and Mark V are identical guitars that were offered at the same time, although the serial numbering up to around B700 seem to be Mark IIs and after that Mark Vs.

..ssSSAAY WHAT ?!?!?!? uhm....I don't theeeeenk soooo......he's got it TOTALL BASSACKWARDS!!How about more like...."The Body of the Guitar was made from Solid Wood and was HOLLOWED OUT FROM THE BACK. Then a SEPARATE PIECE of WOOD WAS ATTACHED.".......there.....That's a lot better....and a "fake" semi-solid body known as a "combo." The body of the guitar was made from solid wood and had the front hollowed out and another piece of wood glued on, like a Rickenbacker guitar.
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

Dennis,
I am constantly finding conflicting information about Semie as well as his guitars and their history. Did you notice who the author of the article is? He is consider one of the most knowledgeable of the Mosrite aficionados. To really be confused, don't forget about the post about Artie's new acquisition.

Thanks, Danny: The seller told me he sold that blue Mark II to Tymguitars in Austrilia (the second one, not the first rare type) He is in the 40s but love 60's music, seems quite knowledable about Mosrites.
Very interersting info from Dennis, I shall study more on this subject. Thanks.

Oh Yeah ! NO QUESTION on Artie's guitar, EVERYTHING points to it as being a '64, in which I agree with his thoughts of it being a PROTO. I don't recall ANY MARK IIs being done in a Sunburst...but Artie has one . I don't recall any MARK IIs having the Neck Plate Cover...but Artie has one , etc......
Yep, I noticed Tim (Tym) . But the more I re-read this article, I'm now wandering if his info might of gotten "twisted" in the final 'proof read' before this article 'went to print.' referring to the MARK IIs/MARK Vs and the Combo as well .....
Vincent mentioned:
OK, I finally went over to Tim's Site. The first Blue "Ventures II Model" I see is the MARK II on the 2nd page(the Rare one). However the next Blue "Ventures II Model" that I see on the 3rd page is the MARK V. There are no other Blue MARK II/MARK Vs on Tym's Site from the 60s, so I believe EVEN the Seller probably thought that it was a MARK II when in reality, it was a MARK V. The thing that makes it so confusing (and aggravating) is that when you see "the Ventures II Model," people believe they are automatically looking at a MARK II, and 9 times out of 10, they are not.....
Vincent, no matter what, it's a Beautiful Guitar (keep the Hula Hottie)

Thanks, Dennis: Mark V or Mark II, I don't really care. It is a great Mosrite with great sound. I am glad to see the Ventures logo on headstock. I will keep it for a long while. As for Hula girl.. I don't know... I have to think about it.. Maybe ask my wife??

Desert Surfer, nice Mosrite - it's a real beauty but personally I'd lose the hula hottie....just my opinion . Maybe 'cause I live in Hawaii it doesn't do much for me - you see those on cars and trucks all the time here.

Thanks, Byron: She has to go! My wife said: "Get rid of her..."
Now the key question is not to hurt the paint.. To play safe, I will have my guitar tech guy do it.

Thanks, Lars: Sorry, it's too late. The guitar is with my guitar tech guy now and the "Hoola girl" will be executed next week. She won't live to see this Christmas...
I got it at very good price (under $2000) I am extremely happy with the sound..
