Different seller, but yeah, it looks nastily similar. Mine's probably worse- they didn't bother to even out the drips of shellac from the body or sand anything. I think I saw a petrified hair on there too.

Pictures please? A petrified hair is too good to pass up.

OH that is too funny! Hey, just pretend that it's one of Semie's hairs and you can tell some tall tale about it. My celebrity has a finger print on the back and as far as I'm concerned it belonged to Semie. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Welcome! That bass looks like it was refinished the same way as this particular guitar though. Did you buy it from this same person?

Thanks all,
I'm still deciding whether to tackle it myself (fun), or have it done (boring). I know it's supposed to be Pearl White but I want it to be something more interesting. Since it was assembled from parts most likely and is pretty beat up, I figure I'm not angering any gods. But I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on keeping things original. I come from a Bluegrass/Old Time background where people are pretty fascistic about originality with their instruments, which I understand but kind of sucks the fun out of things. BTW I've done refinishing work before, am an artist by trade and used to work for Chris DiPinto in his first shop in Philly.

Oh PS-
the hair has been sent to a lab for DNA testing, keep your fingers crossed, it just might be Semie's!!!

Jimmo - Since the refin's already been done, you're not going to hurt the instrument by being creative with the finish you put on. Look at some of the custom paint jobs on some of Semie's guitars, and do it like you want. Or, if you're a purist, go back to the idea of restoration to the original color. Either way, it'll never be original, so go for what pleases you.

+1 on what Dennis just said...and as you decide what route to take, consider the fact also that the body- (and neck?) contour has been 'customised' away from what was once the original shape...

right, thanks guys, this was pretty much my thinking too. I'm actually partial to the idea of having a player as opposed to a collector's piece.
