I wonder if this was a Gospel brand differentiator vs. Mosrite brand.

Mel, check back at the beginning of this thread, and you will get the whole story.....But in a nutshell,
........yes and no......well...that didn't help, did it ? (LOL, sorry ;)) .....
The only other place I've seen these guards is on the Canada partsrites.

These are probably 'Gospel/Victory' Parts that never came into existence and ended up onto the IOU Category :( .
Also, interesting that the slab body III model has an unbound neck with the truss adjustment at the headstock
and the others have bound necks with truss rod at the heel. Finally, I wonder why the I and III have solid pickup
covers and the II has exposed poles.

The Gospel/Victory III slab body model with the unbound neck and the truss rod adjustment at the neck is actually aimed at the same
category as the Celebrity III Model. It was a Budget Line for some one trying to get into a Mosrite line of Guitars. Some people say it
was a Student Model Line, but I'll tell you what...I'll put the Gospel/Celebrity III up against some of the "Big Boys"...and that's NO B.S!!!

Mel, the 'Gospel/Victory I' had the smooth p'ups which were 'HUMBUCKERS' while the III were actually that of the Smooth Single-Coil
found on the Celebrity IIIs. And last but not least.....the 'Gospel/Victory II was pretty much 'the Ventures' Model/MARK I with the
German Carve (like the Victory I) and the Single Coil pole piece adjustable pickups ;) .....
make the Mos' of it, choose the 'rite stuff.

I've noticed that on forum member GTSP has a Mosrite V88 and the pickguard has that "swooping" that you are talking about. I wonder if it was easier to produce them like that

Very cool photos and great info. As many of you know by now, I live very close to Jonas Ridge and have a connection with a former employees son. He told me just the other day that he knew of several Churches around that Semie had "Place" Guitars in. I am trying to track one down, I'll keep everyone posted when more info comes available. BC

I have always wondered if there was a reason that some mosrite humbuckers had exposed poles while some didn't. Anybody know anything about that?
Any updates on the Gospel Thunderhead?

As far as I know,
Mosrite humbuckers all had pole pieces. I am not saying they never made humbuckers without them, but I have never seen them. I have many Mosrites that are said to be Humbuckers with no pole pieces, but in every case, they are single coil. If they exist, I would think they were on the Celebrity guitars from the early 70's as that was realistically the only time Semie made humbuckers for production guitars. The "New" Mosrite guitars from 1976 to 1978 were thought by some to be humbuckers with no pole pieces, but I can assure you, they are single coils. If anyone can post pictures of Humbucking Mosrite pickups with no pole pieces, I would love to see them with the guitars they are in so we can document this on the forum.

Thanks for your kind indulgence,
Mosriteforever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, Kurt Cobain's and at least one other identical guitar were finished in sunburst, most of the Celebrity style Gospel's were natural, mosriteforever owns a very cool red burst one, my Gospel Brass Rail is an amber or honey burst, and there are several Gospels and all of the Gospel Encounters finished in gold burst.

Really, saying a guitar is a Gospel tells you no more about it than saying a guitar is a Mosrite.

Nope, but there was an almost identical one except with a third pickup on eBay a couple years back accompanied by the claim that it was "Semie's last guitar" and a pricetag of 30K. If I had a nickel for every time I saw "Semie's last guitar," I'd have a bunch o' nickels.
