To ADD another one to the TWILIGHT ZONE, I just found this!
Judging by the Humbuckers on the later Maphis Model, which Danny
is going to be responsible for, this looks to be one of the last Videos
taken of Mr. Joe Maphis. Mr. Joe Maphis passed in 1986.....

I see the arm rest is missing in the video. It is back on the guitar now at the museum.

Man, Joe sure makes it look easy. But of course being able to play every stringed instrument imaginable helps.

I just ordered a couple of the Town Hall Party DVDs, one of Joe Maphis and one of the Collins Kids. I remember watching that show every Saturday night when I was a kid. I hope the DVDs are clearer than the YouTube video's.

Danny, unfortunately, some are, some are not. I think it had to do with the early cameras and technology.
And please don't hold me to that, it's just a guess, but does Kinemascope sound familiar? :?

You're thinking of kinescopes. This is all before videotape. A kinescope is a film camera taking a movie of a video monitor. This was done so the show could be broadcast at a time other than the live performance.

Hey Guys..I just found something in my archives.. I bet not everybody at the forum has.... an extremely old, old snap-shot
of themselves struming on one of the most famous Mosrites of all time, Larry Collins original Mosrite double neck guitar. Sometime back in the early
'60s Semie updated the necks, just like he did Joe's. But Larry's still had the 1950s Carvin pickups, the hand-made
Brass hardware and inlayed black and white prexi-glass pickguard and arm-rest. It was a real cool guitar with lots of personallty.

Ed -
Wow! That's an amazing picture. Any idea what happened to the original necks and why they were replaced?

Hey Mel,

Semie was always updating his old stuff, I think he wanted everybody to have, and enjoy the latest verson of what Mosrite was at the time. I don't really know what happen to the necks , if Semie had them the're probally long gone, maybe Larry gott'em back? I wonder
if Larry ever got his old guitar back? Semie had it when he left Bakersfield in 1978, some years later I heard it was hanging on display in a casino in Reno.
Deke knows Larry.........Deke where's Larry's first Double-neck now??

Great photo Ed. Keep digging in you archives. ;)

Where was the shot taken? My guess is you weren't at you home as I doubt that guitar would have been very far from Semie's shop.

The very first time I met Semie he had Joe Maphis's guitar and had just finished changing the necks. He was surprised that I was familiar with the guitar and Joe Maphis. After I explained that my family drove down to LA every couple of weeks to visit our relatives, we always watched Town Hall Party. (Actually I think my Dad like THP better than visiting relatives.) Well, he say's 'go ahead and pick it up and strum it'. You can only imaging how excited that was to hold that guitar.

A real piece of history there .. Ahhh, if we could only turn back the clock, and know what we have learned over the years.
