I hope this photo is available. My first time trying to use 'Dropbox'

Note the pick guard, which I don't see on any other Mosrite bass guitars.
Any ideas ?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum. That is certainly an interesting one you have there. If I am seeing it correctly, the pickup, bridge and tailpiece all look standard along with the neck as much as I can see. The pickguard, knobs and paint all appear to be mods. Based on the serial number it may be a 65 or 66 Ventures model originally. I am assuming that is how you got it or did you do any mods on it? Would you like to post a picture of the headstock?

Hi, I bought the guitar for $5 in 1966. It had survived a fire, along with a six string for which that I paid the same price. The pick guard was on the guitar when I got it.The new finish is my work, circa 1966. The original finish was a bit scorched from the fire. Other than the finish, the rest of the guitar survived quite well and has been a great bass to play all these years. I will try to post a picture of the headstock, which has been refinished to match the rest of the guitar. I have changed the tuners but still have the originals. Thanks for your interest.

I can appreciate the pic of the head stock, it actually looks kind of psychedelic... but I guess a pic of the original tuners would be more useful if you are looking to narrow down the date of manufacture of the bass. Pretty cool looking anyway, how did you get that finish?

Hi, the tuners are standard of that era, big, open geared and mine became a bit unreliable, hence the change.
The finish is a combination of Gesso painting ground and acrylic paint and yes, psychedelia certainly played a
large part in the choice of motif. Definitely the 60's !

Here is a picture of the tuners. I'm mostly interested in the shape of the pick guard.
As I said before it is original to the guitar. I don't suppose a Mosrite sold in Canada
would be different from a U.S. model ? It's a mystery.

Thanks again for posting, I guess from the tuners I can say it is more likely a '65 than a '66 when the 'duck foot' tuners were introduced. However I have never seen a pickguard of that shape on a Mosrite, so it may be a mod. Do you still play it?

Hi, yes , the pick guard will remain a mystery for the time being. Yes, I still play it
but am getting ready to put it up for sale. I'm in the process of "de-accumulating".
I now play 6 string guitar more than anything else ; just ordered a new one last week. I
really am trying ! Thanks for your interest and information.
