Hey guys,

Thanks for the welcoming words.

What bring me here is primarily my love of Mosrites. Probably no surprise there...
Also I like being around by people who are passionate about whatever it is they're into & there's an abundance of that here!

I am a full time professional musician & I have the bank account to prove it.

That said I have an idea for a bass that I want to put together & I'm trying to collect some info. I sincerely hope this won't be considered sacrilegious. The design is a 34" scale 4 stringer the shape of which is basically a Ventures model. And before I get warned off because of the inevitable neck dive I believe I have a solution. Actually three solutions. Okay...ideas for solutions. Whether or not any of them works I'm planning on posting the build here. If I fail miserably then some of you will have a good laugh or perhaps my experiment will spark an idea in someone else. I'd be okay when the first option & thrilled by the second.

The main thing that's holding me up at the moment is this:

Is the bass body the same size as the guitar? Seems like it ought to be a bit bigger. There's a number of tracings/templates for the guitar but I've yet to locate one for the bass.

The only actual Mosrite I've been able to find & measure is the six string. I also measured the Dano '64 which is the same size & the Eastwood which is both thinner and smaller.

So...if anyone would be kind enough to share this info with me I'll be your BFF!

Peace.

The bass body is considerably bigger. I built one a few years ago and fortunately had an original to make the pattern from but no longer have it. Unfortunately most of the old timers have since moved on from this forum therefor finding someone with the measurements might take a while before they visit again. Might try the Mosrite group on facebook.

Hey Dubtrub,

I will definitely check out FB. Usually try to avoid it so didn't even occur to me to look there.
And thanks for that info. Do you remember if the proportions were the same? If so I could scale up a drawing. Well the guy who's going to fabricate the body could. He's got the guitar templates. Or if you happen to know the pickup dimensions I could use that to determine the body size from photos.

And thanks for the welcome Sarah93003!

The pickup dimensions are the same. I guess you could get close by scaling up a standard size Mosrite but better yet grab a photo of a Mosrite bass off the internet and use the pickups as a reference point to bring the photo up to scale.
