Hello from Bakersfield California! I am a new member of this forum, and this is my first post.
I have just acquired a Mosrite Joe Maphis double neck 6/12. I believe it is a 65 or 66. It has a few features that lead me to believe it may be a one off.
First, it has four knobs, two volume and two tone. I have never run across one with more than two knobs.
Second, it is a two color sunburst and not the typical three color.
Third, it has the Joe Maphis model label on the 12 string headstock only.
Lastly the serial number on the fretboards begins with SP...Special Production?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

				Howdy,
My 6/12 is very similar, but without any Joe Maphis designation...only two knobs, but does have 3 switches in the same locations.

First of all, welcome tbiz . The Joe Maphis model label on my double is on the 6 string neck, which is like the pic on Sarah's.

The only difference is that my headstocks are black with a sunburst finish on the back of the necks.....

This could have been a Gene Moles assembled guitar from parts from the Mosrite 68 auction. Gene was famous for the knobs super close together like at the bottom on the guard. Also, it appears the finish could have been 3 tone at one time and the red has faded out like so many Les Pauls etc. Other than the knobs and strange serial number it looks pretty straight up to me. My bet is Gene Moles assembled it after the factory closed. Just my best guess.

				Thanks Bob,
I have a text into my friend Eugene Moles (Gene's Son) to see if he can shed some light on the matter.
