New to forum - finding out about Mosrite.

Hello,
I am considering buying a Mosrite and i think i'd like a Mark1. I want a light, slim necked guitar and what i am reading, the Mosrite is the one. I have a Fender Jag and i love the surf tones and slim neck...
I have a few questions though:
Is Mosrite still going? and making new guitars?
I cannot seem to find an official website?
Roman guitars in Las Vegas tell me they are the US distributor and can ship to the UK (where i am)...and i should be careful of fakes and avoid eBay.
I just want to make sure when i buy, its American and not fake!
Thanks...
AndyB

Welcome Arbirkitt!
(IMO) I would not buy from Ed Roman, you are not buying a real Mosrite, unless it's vintage. You may find what you're looking for right here on the forum, I've bought from several members and have been very happy with the deals I've made. The neck on a Jag and the neck on a Mosrite are quite different, personally I love the feel of a thin Mosrite neck and "speed frets" but others don't. You might prefer the feel of a Hallmark over a Mosrite. Hard to tell without having one in your hands though!
Good luck in your search!
Scott

Hello and thank you Scott for the Hallmark mention.
I have a good assortment of Mosrite guitars in my private collection and I may be willing to part with one. Do you know what year and model you are interested in? I may be able to hook you up.
Best and thanks, Bob Shade

Bob's an amazing Mosrite resource, and he's also a great guy to deal with! His collection is top notch, and his Hallmark line of guitars are exceptional!
Give him a call....you won't be disappointed!!

Thanks guys...Any reason to avoid Roman guitars? they have been most helpful via email...although they seem to have quite a lot of their website devoted to Mosrite copies, brands to avoid and critisism of non genuine Mosrite sources.
I basically am looking for a genuine Mosrite guitar. I guess this would be vintage? Not a Japanese or wherever else one...one that was made by Mosrite.
Thanks for the posts.

Hi Andy,
I'm going to be up-front with you. Ed Roman sells Japanese replicas of original Mosrites. They are very authentic, but they are not vintage. Mosrite afficionados say that Mosrite ended with Semi's passing. May I suggest doing some reading in this forum to get an idea as to what is going on with the name "Mosrite" and who really owns it and what that means. No vintage Mosrite will be inexpensive. They were top of the line and expensive when they were new as well. Bob Shade is one of the foremost experts on Mosrite and may be the very best at restoring vintage Mosrites. And he's a very helpful nice guy. The history of Hallmark can be found on the website. The Hallmark 60 Custom puts you VERY close to a Mark 1 for a reasonable price, but if you want vintage, realize the necks are very slim and the string spacing narrower than your Jag. I don't own a vintage Mosrite but have played them. I had no trouble adapting to the narrow neck-maybe because I'm a lefty who plays right handed give me an advantage on fretting.
Anyway, food for thought and really suggest perusing this forum. Any questions the members here are beyond helpful and knowledgable on all things Mosrite.
The Mosrites sold by Roman are the Fillmores. I would suggest calling Arty at Front Porch Music to see what Fillmores he may have available now. There is a thread about Front Porch at the very top of this forum that you should read before committing to the purchase of a reissue.
Good luck, and let us know what happens!

Hey Andy. My bad. See the thread on Front Porch and check out the Hallmark section in the Modern Mosrites and Clones forum.

I can sell you a genuine 1965 made in Bakersfield California Mosrite Ventures model guitar for about the same price as one of the Japanese Mosrite's. If you want a beautiful guitar that was made in the hey day by Semie and company that will hold value. Look no further.
Anyone else as well, feel free to inquire,

Cool...appreciate everyones help. I think i'm pretty much up to speed on Mosrite....unless i'm mistaken Hallmark make pretty cool (and good quality) guitars, Fillmore are guitars made in Japan and sold by Ed Roman and if you want a genuine Mosrite, then the vintage ones are the only way. Genuine Mosrite guitars ceased when Semie Moseley passed away.
Gruhe guitars have a nice one, a 1988 model...in black. I guess this is genuine, later model.
http://guitars.com/inventory/ez5443-198 ... e-m88-1988Hello Bob,
How much would be the 'genuine 1965 made in Bakersfield California Mosrite Ventures model guitar' and would you ship to the UK?
Thanks to all!
