New Member- Paul from Australia

Postby paulthesparky » Tue Oct 29, 2013 7:17 pm

Hi Forum members,
I'd like to introduce myself as a new member to the forum. Thanks for having me. Looking forward to positively contributing/ sharing all aspects of what makes me, yet another fan of the Mosrite guitar/ sound.

My name is Paul Nielsen. I'm currently located in Mandurah, Western Australia. I'm 47 years old, work as a Industrial Instrument/ Electrical/ Electronics Technician.

In my spare time I enjoy playing different types of guitars in a couple of different jam bands. Recently found myself drawn to offset guitars/ surf sound/ B52's/ Ventures etc.

So far, I'm now the proud owner of a Fender Squier Jaguar which I've upgraded to custom pickups/ custom bridge. Yeah, the necks a bit thin, frets a bit low/ narrow, but for $650 overall cost, I've now officially got my first sweet taste of the offset surf guitar bug. Looking at a Mosrite guitar as my next 'venture', excuse the pun.

Anyway, cheers from me. Here's to keeping the legacy alive in this modern world of faceless/ synthetic sounding processed, teenage marketed, computer driven pop/dance music.

Regards,

Paul

Welcome Paul! Are you familiar with Tym guitars? I think they are in Brisbane. He was making "Wosrite" guitars, and collects/sells various bizarre guitars. I had planned on buying a Wosrite, but he became pretty backed up with orders and it never materialized.

I have heard of Tym guitars. Located in Brisbane about 4000 km away from me. I do fly over there every 2 years to see my parents on the Sunshine Coast. Australia is a big place. Would be interesting to compare a Wosrite to the real thing. If there are any owners (Mosrite/ Wosrite), in Perth, Western Australia, who would like to show off their instruments, please feel free to message us. Truth is, I'm yet to actually play one and don't remember ever seeing/ hearing one being used at a live gig ever. I have huge hands, so may possibly suffer from the 'neck too thin', and 'frets too low' syndrome. So far, just love the sound/ style/ look. Initially may be better off to purchased a Hallmark (Custom 60/ Mark II), for starters, due to the extra neck width. The Squier Jaguar I bought has a 42 mm (1 5/8") wide nut. Noticeably thin/ tight for my fingers. Hallmark is the same nut width. Mosrite could be a struggle to play at 39 mm width. Anybody know of any particular Mosrite models with wider neck/ higher frets? Probably better to search the forum elsewhere, for these answers.
