Hi all,
Introduction email as required/requested.....a bit about myself.....hmmmm. I have been playing guitar for almost 50 years and in that first year I started to build my first hand built guitar. I used a short scale neck from a musicmaster/duo-sonic/mustang style of guitar. The 24 inch scale not the earlier 22.5 inch. It was originally affixed to a telecaster style body with two gretsch filter tron pickups. Interestingly Fender just a few months ago introduced just such a model, their Cabronita telecaster. Mine was built in 1963. I have still got that guitar today although it now looks nothing like the original. Same neck different body and almost everything else. I have always loved the look of the ventures models of Mosrite. But never cared for the slim neck. I have rather large hands and it is dwarfed in my palm. I recently purchased a copy/clone Mosrite ventures model body that seems to be not quite right in the shape department and was looking for some help in making the German curve correct on this piece. This is how and when I found this forum. The original idea was to do a hybrid which was to join a Rickenbacker neck (which did not materialize , the guy took my money and I have not received anything from him in almost 11 months now) to the body that I bought on ebay. Now, I would like to pursue building my own Mosrite style neck just larger to fit my hands. I repair, modify and build guitars for fun and sometimes a small profit, just enough to support the hobby usually. I am also registered in the Rickenbacker forum since my last major project was to restore a fireglo 360/12 string, this was another of my "Dream" guitars. It turned out to be a very expensive but rewarding build. This guitar had been subjected to the specious practice of being stripped and sold off for parts. I just hate to see a fine instrument stripped and sold off that way, so I decided to rescue it. I was able to make some choices that were not available to the average buyer in 2003, when this guitar was made. That year it was equipped hi gain pickups, I opted for toaster tops. It originally had a six saddle bridge, I opted for the twelve saddle model. I also put gold plastic (truss rod cover and pickguards) on it with the vintage style knobs. I'm still working on getting the tailpiece right. The Rickenbacker forum was a great source of information and inspiration. I hope the Mosrite forum will be as much help with this project. I think that the Mosrite will be more affordable to clone rather than to restore an already existing guitar. I will post some pix of the body I purchased so that you can see what I think is incomplete about it, Then I look forward to getting some good advice from those of you with more experience in the Mosrite arena than I have. I hope this is enough information to allow me to stay on the forum, if you require more please post to me before you boot me off?
Thanx
