SW Florida chiming in

Postby leftyjay » Tue Feb 14, 2012 12:48 am

i'm a long time Mosrite fan since the 60s when my brother bought a red venture's mosrite. by the way, he still has it.

i've recently bought a couple lefty Hallmark custom 60 guitars (pearl white & sunset sparkle) and wanted to thank Bob Shade for making this small run of lefty guitars so a few of us can see what we've been missing.

i've been playing guitar since i was 4 yrs old (i'm now 52) and been doing a solo act for the last 24 years. i always take a small handfull of guitars with me to play during the gigs. i also play piano as well as banjo.

and lately, i've been painting my own guitars in my spare time. i've really enjoyed metal flaking teles and strats. i've painted 12 so far and i've learned the way of making the flake really pop.

i have multiple videos up on youtube that show my guitars as well as my playing style. there are even a few venture's tunes. just search for "southpawjay" and you'll see me in action.

thanks for letting me onto the forum.

Welcome Jay, your opening sentence will probably touch on many members' regrets having sold their firsts :|
You have a cool YouTube channel; I need you to teach me one of my favourite Ventures' tunes!
You really nail "RUNNIN' WILD" :o

Here's what I'm talkin' 'bout, folks:

Welcome to the forum! Great looking paint jobs and beautiful playing. Maybe you would consider demonstrating the process in our 'other guitars and project' section.

thank you all for the warm greeting.

i've been a ventures nut since i was able to pick up my first guitar. i learned how to play all the parts by listening to the albums the ventures put out that teach you the songs.

i can probably play every venture tune that they played in concert. at least 90% of them. during my gigs, i make sure to do a couple. cant wait to put my new Hallmark C60 guitar to use on those songs. the pearl white is going with me tonight.

my brother was the real nut since he wanted a mosrite soooo bad. finally my father ordered him one and to this day, he still plays it just about everyday. he started up a few ventures style bands around rochester ny. it was just a hobby for the music he grew up playing.

as for me, i try to play every style. i'm basicly self taught. cant read music, but can construct a backing track on my keyboard workstation that will let me take off on my guitar solos.

i have a few guitar painting projects coming up soon, and will post them during the process. would love to get an unfinished hallmark and put my spin on it with a fancy paintjob. someday.......

thanks again for the welcome
