My name is Ed and I live in Mc Kees Rocks, Pennsylvania (just outside of Pittsburgh). I started playing guitar in a basement band (we didn't have a garage) in the early 60's. Although two of us sang in the church choir, we were an instumental group and never sang on stage. The group consisted of two six-string guitars, a bass guitar and drums. I played rhythm and some lead on a Goya Rangemaster through a Vox Buckingham amp. The other guitar and bass were Fenders with Fender amps. The drums were a set of Rogers. We got good enough to play a few parties, mosly for college kids, and earned just enough money to pay for our equipment. Being an instrumental group, it was only natural that we got interested in the Ventures and, subsequently, Mosrite. Our bass player's uncle bought a new Mosrite Ventures model that he let me play a few times. I distinctly remember the narrow, wafer thin neck, almost nonexistant frets and extremely low action. I though I was in guitar heaven! The group dissolved in the early 70's as we all got real jobs and started families, sometimes vice versa. I sold my equipment and bought an acoustic (Epiphone Bard) that I still play today.
A few Father's Days ago my sons gave me a Charvel CHS-1 guitar (base model, Korean made). It plays fairly well and rekindled my interest in electrics; it also brought back memories of the good old days and especially that Mosrite Ventures model. For over 9 months now I've been looking to buy a genuine Mosrite (expensive) or "reasonable facsimile thereof" (less expensive). I've seen info on Ed Roman/Fillmore, Excellents/Dark Cloud, 1990's Japanese reissues, Tym Guitars, Hallmark Custom 60's, eBay fakes, auction-bought versus store-bought, etc., but I still don't have a clear understanding or plan of action. I joined this forum to help me with that FIRST purchase but also to learn beyond that. I love old music and I love old guitars like the Mosrite. I think all of you folks feel the same way. (I also tend to be a little long-winded --- sorry.)

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like a fun band back in the day. There's plenty of info to search on the site about your options returning to the Mosrite (or Mosrite-ish) fold.

Welcome! I personally took a twenty-year hiatus from playing, and as retirement approached, took a renewed interest in things that go twang in the night...
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
