Hi, this is Tim and I'm new here. I'm a audio nut who is 43 years old and disabled due to back issues. I'm just learning how to play a Yamaha 6 string as a way to help stimulate nerve reconnections and finger strength. I lost over half of the feeling in my hands from a 4 level neck fusion I also have a 3 level lower back fusion and a bunch of degenerated discs.

I have a red '64 or '65 Mosrite Ventures bass guitar serial# 5172. It was left to me a couple years ago, but I just found it hidden away in some boxes. It is completely torn down and the paint was falling off of it and badly cracked. The neck is straight and just needs to be striped and repainted. I also have every part and screw for it. I have removed the paint on the body and the body is in great shape.

It does need the plastic piece that goes around the pickup and the bar glued back on the back of the pickup.

I need to paint it (DIY) and get the head stock decal if possible. Hopefully the electronics work.

Any input would be great.

I can't wait to be able play it. I also will be buying a nice blues/rock 6 string guitar at some point. I need to play some other guitars to see what I like.

Welcome Tim, I think I can understand your excitement in wanting to get your Mosrite Bass restored
If it were mine I would try to find a reputable Mosrite restorer/finisher instead of doing anything to it myself. Several guitar builders are to be found right here, some of them even worked for Mosrite(!) and are fully capable of restoring and refinishing your bass to it's former glory…or even better!

Perhaps they will find time to chime in and give you some good advice ...and who knows, you could do some business with them. Happy restoration

Thanks for the welcome. Any advise or tips would be great. I'd like to hear from the experts.

I have sprayed lacquer before with good results.

I apply about 25 coats of primer, paint and clear with a bunch of sanding between coats.

Any input is great.
