:Hi, this is all new to me. I got a 1967/8 Combo last year and love it, the sound is so good and looks stunning. I need to adjust the neck a little and this has given me a pain in the head, I have a Patrick eggle, Gretsch and an old Takamine and have owned many others. I have never seen one like this before, the truss rod seems to be below the first fret. Is this normal and if so is there a tool I could get to help, as I said I'm loving the guitar so much always wanted one. Regards Cliff.

Hi Cliff, Welcome to the forum. The truss rod on a Mosrite should below the zero fret. Zero frets serve the purpose of string height as a nut would normally so yes, It is normal (For Zero fret guitars)

Yeah, I'm generally a bit wary of messing with the truss rod too much myself so I always let my guitar guy deal with the Mosrites that are like that. A little trick he does is to put a capo on, then loosen the strings, unbolt the neck, adjust, re-bolt, then tighten the strings back up. Sometimes that's easier than trying to get under the pickguard. Of course sometimes it's a bit of trial and error until it's right which is a bit of a pain but once you're set you're good to go.

Cliff, welcome to the forum. When I have to adj. the truss rod on my Mosrite I have to remove the neck pickup and let it hang loose, re tune the guitar and adj. to my liking and let it set a bit and check to make sure it hasn't moved past what I want and then reinstall the front pickup. It is a p.i.t.a. but it works for me and after it was set I have not had to move it again.
Of course this only works if it adj. from the rear of the neck.

Since your guitar is a 67-68, it will have the truss rod adjustment at the headstock end, so disregard the other comments as they do not apply to your guitar. They are for the rear adjustment pre-66 guitars. If your adjustment is clear back under the first fret then apparently the rod has moved back towards the body within the channel. Unless you can access it from the body end (highly unlikely) to push the truss rod back towards the headstock, then you will have to determine the right size in an extra long Allen wrench to fit the adjustment nut. It also sounds like it may be possible that someone has removed the adjusting Allen head nut and that is why the truss rod seems to be back under the first fret. Try to get some light in there to determine what you have to work with.
