Greetings from Memphis, TN the birthplace of rock & roll. In the late 60's I played a 65' Mosrite Ventures II model in a garage band. Now 45 years later I've got a bug to buy one. I guess it's a mid-life crisis. I joined the forum to learn more about the vintage Mosrites and try to avoid counterfeits. I currently own a Guild F-50R and a black Rickenbacker 360. While I still play occasionally I guess I'm more of a collector.

I found a 1965 Ventures II model on-line but I'm concerned because it has a built-in slide switch in pick guard right below the fist pickup. The owner said it was a distortion booster. Did Mosrite offer a factory installed distortion booster in 1965? If it is after-market would that decease the value from a collectors point-of-view? I don't want to over pay or buy a guitar that would be difficult to sell down the road. I would apprecate your feedback.

Welcome to the forum. Yep, it's an after market add on and would decrease collector value.

Welcome! I'm guessing your Ventures II model was the german carve version, Not the slab body model like Johnny Ramone played. Did it have the standard Vibramute/Moseley bridge or did it have the Mark II (Slab body) Bridge? (There are a few German Carve versions with the Slab Body bridge)

I appreciate the welcoming comments. The Ventures II model that I’m looking at has a German cut but I’m not sure what type of bridge it has. I’m going to try to send a picture – can you tell me if it has a Vibramute/Moseley bridge?

Welcome!

The eBay guitar that you've shown has the Moseley tailpiece and standard bridge.

Interesting that the listing has no mention of the added slide switch.

Thanks - the seller has owned the guitar for about six months and I don't think he knows much about what he has.

Welcome to the Forum. I played in your Great City Many, Many Times :!: I had the pleasure of recording at Ardent Studios and at Sounds Unreel with the Great Producer Jim Gaines. Is Rod and Hank's Vintage Guitars still in business there :?: They could help in your Mosrite Quest.
