Another Venture in Waiting.

Postby LOSTVENTURE » Thu Jul 02, 2009 9:25 am

I thought for sure that when I left my cell number with the Wilson Brothers that, "OK, finally the Ventures have MY telephone number, should they need me." So far, no such luck.
I started playing in the summer of 1960. We had several country guitarist in the neighborhood and they showed me some chords. I discovered the Ventures shortly there after, and life has never been the same. Whenever I could get $3.00 together I would get their latest album. A total 0f 58 at last count. I would sit down next to my turntable and play the songs over and over untill I could play every note, or at least all that I could handle. I still have "The Fantastic Ventures" album that introduced the Mosrite to the rock & roll world. I have to tell you that since all I could afford at the time was Fender's new Mustang, I was a littler troubled that Nokie & company were not playing their Fenders anymore. I got over it and soon fell for that incredible little guitar on the back of that album.
To cut right to the chase, I have always wanted the Mosrite Ventures model but I was not about to give some foreigh builder a couple of thousand for a copy with the decal that says "Mosrite". Not then and not now. Fortunately I discovered Mr. Shade and his Hallmark 60's Custom. It may not have been total love at first view, but when I first opened the case (last Saturday), I was actually stunned. I am still having a little trouble believing that I can go home and play that beautiful guitar any time that I want.
I still re-learn the Ventures Christmas Album every year. First was for friends, then for my kids, and now for my grand-children. My grand-daughter thinks I'm the best guitarinst ever. Who am I to argue with critisizem like that?
Well, it's good to know that I have found some folks here on the same length.
Oh, by the way I don't consider myself old. I just have a lot more experience at being young than some do.

Welcome Don!
You really have 58 Ventures albums?!

I hope that you still have the old Mustang as well.

Thanks for the welcome guys.
For what it's worth, I still have the albums. Some of the earlier ones are almost tranparent due to my having to listen to them a few hundred times before I got all the notes right. The ex might have taken a couple with her as I am having trouble finding a couple from the early 60's.
As for the Mustang, We all do stupid things when we are young, right. Well I paid $189 for it, so when a guy offered me $250 for it ten years later (there may have been alchohol involved here) I let him have it. I recently bought the CIJ 65 reissue just for old times sake. I still think it is a great guitar.
