OMG dude I F***ING LOVE THE MC5!!!!!!!!!!!! KICK OUT THE JAMS MOFOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think for me the first time I saw someone play a ventures one was when fred sonic smith played it. I didnt discover the ventures until much later. fred sonic smith was probably a major reason Johnny Ramone picked up a mosrite, since it was one of his all time favorite bands. Man, I wish I heard more revolutionary music like the motor city 5 today. If anyone has never listened to the kick out the jams album, you should, it's freakin' amazing!

THANK YOU!!!

Yes! :D

If not for Johnny Ramone and Fred "Sonic" Smith, I might have never taken such an interest in Mosrites.

God bless the motor city five. And may Rob Tyner and Fred rest in piece.

Fred always had the coolest Mosrites man. Like the one in your pic, white with white pickguard.
He also had had a black one with a black pickguard. (see pic)

And of course there's always room for more Mosrites! Fred did play a 450/12 strung as a 6 so of course I had to nerd out and get exactly that. I confirmed that info via Scott Morgan. He also put Gibson humbuckers in which I did, although I didn't notice until later that the poles are reversed on one of his pickups. I may switch the nut out as it makes the spacing a bit wide between the E and A strings. Doesn't hurt that Johnny Ramone also played a 450 at one time, kinda cover two bases with that one. I believe his mysteriously wound up in the hands of Rick Nielson. Fred's son Jackson is in possession of Fred's though in case you were wondering. Did I rack up some decent nerd points yet?

Eltuce... I love you. Thank you very very much!

You are rewarded infinite nerd points. Just noticed that you also have a pearl white Mosrite similar to what Fred had in the MC5 days too.

AND the Crestwood, in AMAZING condition. I thought I was the only Fred "Sonic" Smith fanatic out there!! :)

He was an incredible player. Totally original and inimitable style. I'm mearly making futile attempts to copy his mastery of playing. It really blows my mind.

I am dumbstruck... Man... One day I'll find me a 450 and mod it like Freds, saving me the hassle of replacing the nut and such.
Or the 12 string, like yours, If I get REALLY caught up in the moment. ;)

Nice that Jackson has his fathers guitar. I'd love to hear/see him play. Only thing I've really ever heard about Jackson is his marriage with Meg White of the White Stripes. But supposedly he has inherited his fathers ability as a guitarist.

Scott Morgan, cool! Well, he of anyone should know. (God I love the Sonics Rendezvous Band)
How did you come in contact with Scott Morgan??

All the best. - John

I'm not surprised at all that there are a few of us on here that love the MC5. Probably more surprised they never came up before. I read somewhere that Fred's black Mosrite was his white one but he spray painted it black. Not sure how true that is and in most footage it's too difficult to really tell. As for the 450, you're definitely going to want to at least change the bridge, those things are terrible! It is kinda funny how much I put into changing that thing. Scott Morgan is on My Space and had actually sent ME a friend request, totally caught me off guard but I figured as long as he was there it couldn't hurt to ask about Fred's guitar. Michael Davis and Dennis Thompson are on facebook. I wrote to Mike a couple of times and he always got back to me, real nice guy! Yes, I wish I could play like Fred, love that guy. I didn't really pick up a guitar until I was 19, and still at 38 I'm thinking I should be a heck of a lot better! I've also been a drummer since 5th grade, should probably be better at that too! Ahh, morning ramblings, coffee must be kicking in. By the way, the Crestwood is not an original. It was made by Roger Daguet in France. He borrowed the guitar from Deniz so that he could make replicas. Great guitars, and probably cheaper than an original, if you can find one! Honestly, probably a better guitar too.

Very cool. =)

I'm sure you're putting your experience in music to good use. You certainly have great taste.

It seems it's kind of hard to track the Fred Smith Mosrites, I 've also seen a black one with white pickguard and a silver one. (I think...)

Good job scoring that replica, I should have known, looked a bit too clean. ;)

But I'm sure it's great. Nicke Andersson of the Hellacopters owns one exactly like yours, also made by Daguet. Really cool guitars.

Feel free to check out my new Mosrite If you havn't already. http://www.mosriteforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2440

See you on the forums!

Hey Tommy "el tuce" you are everywhere!!! glad you like my crestwood... and sorry you feel it a bit heavy, I guess that three mini humbuckers plus bigsby, rotomatic grover and 50/60 years old dry cuban mahogany doesn't help...

HAHA! Yes, I am everywhere, I have gotten accustomed to the weight though unless I pick it up after playing the SG Junior. The Hallmark El Tuce weighs more than the Crestwood by about 1 lb. I weighed them both on a digital scale. Funny you should post today as I just pulled out the Crestwood last night after a couple of weeks rest.

Speaking of Fred, I may have just confirmed the story of the spray painted Mosrite. Definitely no logo on that headstock and it looks a bit like a high school art project on the finish although the rest of it is a bit tough to see in the b/w pic.
