Thanks for the warm welcome! That price was dealer cost IIRC.

Thanks for that link, Paul - I just checked those out and they look great. I was really looking to get the "real" thing, but the price is right on these Hallmarks - how close are these in terms of feel and sound? Are they considered "knock-offs"?

Buying your Mosrite today is regretfully not an easy matter anymore, as I too have had to find out just recently  If you have the time, read my recent (and first) post entitled "MOSRITE AND HALLMARK" and others. My first "Ventures Mosrite" came to me just recently albeit in the form of a Hallmark product. Now I can say that it really is as good as it looks and the Hallmark may safely be considered a legitimate member of the Mosrite family. Calling it a "knock-off" would do it injustice IMHO. An important consideration too is the fact that Hallmark is conveniently 'close to home' (USA as well as Holland) which is very handy if you don't speak Japanese for instance :!:

To date I have never played any Mosrite but in a nutshell, the Hallmark's neck is not as narrow as that of a Mosrite but still narrower than that of a Fender, making for good playability genarally, if that helps you. It suits me fine and the sound is so powerful, it just blows my Fender Strat away
My advice; don't make any hasty decisions...get to know a thing or two first, like on this fine forum ;)

Interesting topic!
Cheers, Paul

I've been lucky enough to own a Japanese "Excellent" Mosrite (now Fritz's), a '66 Ventures model and a Parts-rite. The Guitar Geek Festival this weekend was the first chance I've had to try out a Hallmark 60 Custom. I've got to say, it's every bit as good a guitar as the Japanese Mosrites. The main differences are the neck width and fret size, which are more "modern" on the Hallmarks. The neck is wider than Mosrites but the profile is still Mosrite-y enough. The larger frets are not to my tastes personally, but it's much easier to make frets smaller than larger so I think they made the right choice. Bottom line, the Hallmarks provide great bang for the buck.

As for the new Dana Moseley Mosrites - it would be interesting to see if forum members could get dealer rates if enough people could order at the same time.
Oy vey - it's MESHUGGA BEACH PARTY - The world's premier Jewish Surf Music Band!

Front Porch Music is closed on Monday's. Tomorrow I'll try to contact Artie and try to get some clear cut answers.

From what I was told from Dana is that Ed Roman is a shady character, not that he's isn't good customer, personally she doesn't like their tactics, moving the pickups advertising the MIJ Mosrites as USA Made in his own shop.. and she feels that you can get a better deal of USA Made Mosrites or MIJ at Front Porch in Bakersfield.

:)
